Current opportunities

To raise awareness of the effects of climate change and support the local community to move to a lower carbon lifestyle. We are planning a series of virtual skill-sharing workshops to support local people to develop their skills in making, mending, upcycling and growing. We are looking for people who are competent in any skill they feel can support the reuse culture and would be happy to film themselves demonstrating one of these skills in their own home or garden to be shared on our social channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and our own website). Basic knowledge of how to use a smart phone camera would be necessary for this position and basic video editing skills would be useful but not essential. We are always open to ideas for workshops so if you think you have a useful skill please let us know and we can discuss further. Cost of materials used to carry out the demonstration will be reimbursed.

To raise awareness of the effects of climate change and support the local community to move to a lower carbon lifestyle. We have been running a series of virtual cook-alongs to support and encourage local people to cook with local, seasonal or low carbon footprint ingredients and to help educate on how to prepare food with minimal or no waste. We are looking for people who enjoy cooking healthy food and would be happy to film themselves preparing a meal in their own kitchen to be shared on our social channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and our own website). Basic knowledge of how to use a smart phone camera would be necessary for this position and basic video editing skills would be useful but not essential. We are always open to ideas for recipes so if you have a favourite dish in mind please let us know and we can discuss further. Cost of ingredients to prepare the meal will be reimbursed.

To raise awareness of the effects of climate change and support the local community to move to a lower carbon lifestyle. We have two fantastic Primary Schools situated in Kirriemuir; Northmuir and Southmuir, both feeding into the brilliant Webster’s High School. Staff and pupils are ever aware of the changing climate and the need for something to be done at a local level. They want to get involved in our project whilst receiving some support to improve their environmental credentials. Would you like to help support our schools to develop their market gardens and learn more about food growing and nutrition? Can you help staff and children to better understand how they can reduce their food and plastic packaging waste? Do you have ideas on how children can communicate a climate change message through art? Then we want to hear from you! Please note, this role would require the volunteer to be eligible to join the PVG scheme.

To raise awareness of the effects of climate change and support the local community to move to a lower carbon lifestyle. Gardeners needed to help build and grow! Sustainable Kirriemuir are developing gardens and food growing spots across Kirriemuir. Are you a gorilla gardener? A builder? A hodgepodge-r? An Artist? Are you a gardener at heart and want to learn new skills to grow your own at home? Then please get in touch. We are still at the development/ infrastructure stage so quite a bit of shed building, slab laying, raised bed building, painting and compost moving to begin with, but after that… growing, growing, growing (maybe a bit of weeding too)! Heavy work and light work available. People with ideas about how we can expand in our growing, vertical, indoor, street planters etc are welcome to share and hopefully we can support you in your endeavours. We are also in the process of putting together a seed library with lots of seed envelopes to stamp and label for distribution. If you have any spare space in your greenhouse in the early spring and could foster some seedlings until we can plant outdoors that would be WONDERFUL.
