Re-engage (Fife)

Charity registered in Scotland SC039377

re-engage exists to support older people who live alone and find it hard to get out in normal times. The Covid-19 crisis is particularly devastating for these people and many are feeling incredibly vulnerable, especially those with few family members or friends to talk to.
In response to the crisis we have suspended our regular social gatherings and, with the help of our dedicated volunteers, have set up a UK-wide call companions service. Older people who are feeling alone can receive a regular friendly phone call throughout the crisis and beyond, for as long as they want it.
We plan to make call companions a permanent addition to our work and will continue to run this new service alongside our social gatherings when things get back to normal.
No one should have to face this crisis alone. We wont leave anyone behind.

Current opportunities

Call Companions is a telephone befriending service providing regular chats to older people, often living on their own and with little social interaction. Our call companion coordinators oversee a small group of around six call companions and the older people they speak to on a regular basis. This is a flexible, homebased voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability. As the call companion coordinator, you will be the main point of contact for everyone in your group. You will regularly contact both the volunteers and the older people, making sure they have all the support and information they need to make or receive their regular calls and responding to any queries or concerns. You will keep the team at Re-engage updated and submit a monthly report. This is challenging but rewarding role that makes a big difference in the lives of people experiencing loneliness.

Call Companions is a telephone befriending service providing regular chats to older people, often living on their own and with little social interaction, launched in response to the Covid-19 crisis. As a call companion, you will make telephone calls to a lonely and isolated older person between two and four times per month (during your first call with the older person, you will decide together how often the calls will take place and at what time). These calls provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. This is a fun and rewarding role which will enable you to connect with a lonely older person and make a real and lasting difference to their life.  This is a long-term voluntary role, so they are ideally looking for individuals who can commit to volunteering with us for at least 12 months. If you have good conversational skills and a friendly, empathetic approach, they would love to hear from you.
