Coastwatch West Fife is looking for people to volunteer as “Youth Leaders” to manage their Youth Education Programme at North Queensferry Harbour. They are an important coastal safety service and provide full training for volunteers.
As an Adult Youth Cadet Leader, you will lead the Youth Cadet Programme, with support from Assistant Leaders and the Coastwatch Station Commander. This involves planning and delivering a programme of activities for young people, including sessions with emergency services and coastguard. You will also help the young people to learn about watchkeeping skills.
If you would like to learn new skills and support young people to engage with safety from a young age, this could be the perfect role for you.
To assist in the preservation and protection of life at sea, along the coast and at inland waterways such as lochs, ponds, burns, canals, reservoirs, by keeping visual watch over activities both leisure and commercial. In particular by the provision of alerting posts / lookout stations and coastal surveillance patrols in order to protect and safeguard lives. In furtherance of this object but not further or otherwise the organisation shall seek: To establish and maintain an organisation of skilled volunteers to undertake surveillance duties in the interests of the safety of the general public; To assist the local authorities and emergency services where possible; To organise and participate in water safety education and other initiatives helping to save lives. To advance the education of the public, of all ages without discrimination, in all aspects of water safety, drowning prevention and maritime skills; To assist in safeguarding the coastal and marine environment including wildlife on the Forth Estuary and along its shores; To help safeguard the lives of the ever expanding number of coastal users; To watch over vulnerable craft and activities on the Forth Estuary and along the shore;

If you are available at times other that listed still get in touch - this role is flexible to the availability of the volunteer. Coastwatch is looking for a commitment of 2-3 hours per week.
Experience required: They are looking for enthusiastic, reliable individuals who understand the need for safety at sea. They can provide all of the training to make their role worthwhile, interesting and rewarding.

Expenses details: We wish to offer inclusive volunteering and are seeking funding to cover costs. Re-imbursement of travel expenses are currently being considered on a case-by case basis for all volunteers.
