Description

We are seeking friendly and approachable people with excellent communication skills to support the activities of the Children’s Wellbeing team in the hospital. Volunteers will be trained to support families using The Hub, our drop-in service in the hospital and can progress to supporting activities on the wards. If you can provide a friendly face, enthusiasm for activities and listening ear when needed this might be the role for you.

Organisation aims and objectives

We support and complement the work of Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children (The Sick Kids) as well as other children’s healthcare settings across Scotland.

Restrictions

Travel details: The location is within the ECHC Hub and on the wards of the Royal Hospital of Children and Young People, 50 Little France Crescent Edinburgh EH16 4TJ. There is limited parking, however there is a wonderful bus service to and from the hospital, from all areas of Midlothian, East Lothian and West Lothian.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Our volunteers are required to fill out a drivers declaration form at the start of their journey, and to provide us with vehicle and license documentation. Ongoing we will require an expense form to be filled out on a monthly basis and if taking public transport we require evidence of bus and rail tickets - mileage is required for reimbursement of travel by car. Maximum up to £10 per day can be claimed.
Training details: You will be supported and shadowed in your first few volunteer shifts by either your role manager or another more experienced volunteer. Ongoing Child Protection training and PVG.
