Breastfeeding Peer Supporters required to provide parent to parent support in local community
NCT Glasgow Breastfeeding Buddies provide free, friendly, parent to parent breastfeeding support throughout Glasgow. Our volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Supporters facilitate groups in the Gorbals, Kirkintilloch and Barrhead.

We are looking for local parents with breastfeeding experience to train as Breastfeeding Peer Supporters and help to facilitate our community group in Barrhead. Breastfeeding Peer Supporters offer parent to parent support to breastfeeding mums/parents within the community. They provide support, information and a listening ear.

As a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, you will:
Help to set up the room,
Make tea/coffee,
Provide a warm welcome (and a warm drink!) to parents attending our group,
Provide support and information on breastfeeding, a listening ear, and signposting where necessary,
Complete group related admin tasks,
Help to tidy up after the group is finished,

The group runs on Thursday mornings, 10am-11.30am.

Please note that you will be required to complete 21 hours of online training (3 hours x 7 weeks) and fill in an online workbook. All Breastfeeding Peer Supporters must have a minimum of 3 months of breastfeeding experience (can include expressing).

Befriender Volunteer

Our Befriending service is here to support individuals towards recovery through weekly phone calls with a trained volunteer. Befriending is for anyone affected by any eating disorder and would like support in their recovery. Our service also supports carers', families and friends of anyone struggling with an eating disorder. The aim of Befriending isn't about telling a befriendee what to do - it is a way of encouraging and suppporting to achieve a goal, change a behaviour, and develop or build on existing skills. This isn't a form of clinical therapy and is not intended as a replacement for professional, clinical treatment. Befrienders will meet with their befriendees for one hour a week for the first three months, at which point the situation will be reviewed. The befriender and befriendee will meet for a maximum of 6-8 month.

Ward Volunteer

Ward volunteers can choose to help with serving teas and coffees or to help during mealtimes. Having extra support during these busy ward routines is invaluable and extremely helpful to all on the ward. Tea Trolley • Moving the trolley from room to room. • Providing patients with a drink of their choice. • Chatting to patients and taking an interest in them. • Passing on any useful information to medical staff. Mealtimes • Prepare the patient area for mealtimes. • Help distribute meal trays to patients and return trays when meals are complete. • Cutting up food for vulnerable patients and assisting with patient feeding. • Provide general assistance as requested by staff.
