Situated in Alloa, we are a unique, local, grassroots charity supporting local children and their families and welcome everyone to our house. Community House stands for Safety, Hope and Care in The Heart of The Community.

Typical duties include: internal wall painting, picture hanging, general DIY, External fence painting, general garden maintenance.

You will receive support from small staff team. Training to be discussed dependent on experience and individual need. Times to be agreed as and when required.

A person who enjoys hands on work with some basic DIY and gardening experience.

Organisation aims and objectives

Community House was established to serve the people of Alloa South and East particularly the Mar Policies, an area of deprivation since the closure of several large employers which created high unemployment and workless families in the area. The charity has operated from a group of council flats on Maree Court, Al-loa, adapted into one building from 2006. The staff help support the community and build positive and trusting relationships which have continued throughout the years and staff are now seeing the next generation of these families use the services. The open-door policy allows families to seek support whenever it may be needed. The aim of the charity is to build positive relationships throughout the community by raising self-esteem, self-confidence, and aspirations through a wide range of activities. Community House is a unique local facility embedded in the community to support children and adults to meet and share time together. The activities are informal, and person centred. The facility is a vibrant, happy place filled with respect and compassion, where aspirations and friendships are encouraged and fostered. The family atmosphere that is promoted in Community House provides a safe place for all.

Volunteer Handyperson

Volunteering Matters is a national volunteering charity. We are looking for volunteers to join our Handyperson project which runs across Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire. Our team of volunteers help older people, or people with disabilities, with small and minor maintenance tasks in their own homes. The types of tasks that volunteers complete normally take 1 hour or less. Examples include putting up shelves, building small bits of flatpack furniture, changing lightbulbs, rewiring plugs, replacing smoke alarm batteries, and hanging mirrors, curtains, or blinds. It can be challenging to find a tradesperson willing to do such minor tasks. It can also be difficult or even dangerous for some people to do these tasks by themselves – particularly if they are older, frail, or have a disability. So the support that our volunteers provide is invaluable. Volunteering hours are completely flexible, and we will work around the volunteer and what spare time they have. You can volunteer as little, or as much as you like. Full training, support, and travel costs are provided. Volunteers are normally aged 50+ however this is not essential.

Handyperson/DIY'er

DIYer. Are a keen DIYer who wants to keep your hand in and pass on your knowledge and skills to young people? then why not join our Volunteer team? We only need a few hours a week to help with the odd jobs and repairs that need done each week following a busy week. It can be small things like putting blinds and noticeboards indoors to repairing decking or fencing outdoors. This opportunity may suit someone who is retired or semi-retired. We will provide induction and health and safety training, volunteer expenses and the opportunity to meet other people as well as make a difference to the work of our charity and support the vulnerable children and other charities who use Wiston Lodge.
