The Primrose Community Trust are looking for youth work volunteers (16+) to help at various sessions for young people in Crossgates in Fife. The sessions would involve setting up, taking part in the sessions, and encouraging young people to be active participants, tidying up, taking part in the evaluation at the end of sessions. The sessions will be working with the youth work team and will be on a rota basis, so will not have to volunteer every week if this is not manageable. Junior Youth club drop-in: Monday 5.45-8pm (8-12yrs) Lego Club sessions: Tuesday 3-5pm (7-12yrs) Senior Youth Club drop-in: Fridays 6-8.15 pm (12-15yrs)

The purpose of an Adult Instructor within the Sea Cadets is to assist in the development of young people as individuals and active citizens by providing training, guidance, direction and assistance. The Sea Cadets aim to provide our young people with the best possible start in life through the application of nautical adventure and fun based on traditions of the Royal Navy. The tasks of an Adult Instructor include but are not restricted to: (a) Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of Children and Young People for whom they are responsible or with whom they come in contact and ensuring compliance with the MSSC's Child Protection Policy and Guidance Document. (b) Delivering instruction and training to adults and cadets of the Sea Cadets in the subjects of the Sea Cadets syllabus and others as required by the Commanding Officer. (c) Providing supervision of cadets and other young people engaged in Sea Cadet activities and on Sea Cadets premises. (d) Assisting with the administrative functions of the Unit as required by the Commanding Officer. (e) Applications of relevant Health and Safety and Safeguarding measures as laid down in Sea Cadets documentation and external regulations. (f) Keeping up to date with changing Sea Cadet and external regulations on all matters pertaining to the training and supervision of Sea Cadets personnel. (g) Undertaking role or activity training within the Unit and elsewhere to allow performance of any of the above tasks.

Mentors meet with their young person at their school for just one hour per week and the difference this makes to their lives is transformational. The mentoring relationship is unique as young people establish a friendship with someone who is there, just for them. The impact on their life is huge. Scotcen, the Scottish arm of Britain’s leading independent social research institute NatCen, found that 81.6% of mentored care-experienced young people leave school to a positive destination (full-time employment, further education, or higher education) compared to 59.8% of care-experienced non-mentored school leavers. We are hoping to help even more young people in Aberdeenshire reach their potential and are seeking volunteers to mentor at Mearns Academy. The only qualification you need to be a mentor is the desire to help. All young people are different and have different needs, so it’s important that our mentors come from all walks of life. The building of the relationship with a young person is facilitated by our fantastic MCR Pathways Coordinators who are based in each school and work with our young people on a daily basis.
