Volunteer Kitchen Assistant

BACKGROUND

The Village Kitchen is a service that delivers frozen meals around Clackmannanshire on a Tuesday and a Friday. They were set up during Covid due to the difficulty the older people in the community had with getting to the supermarket. After Covid there was still a demand for their services so have continued offering the support.

As well as delivering meals, they set up a Thursday cafe and now have 30-35 people attending on a weekly basis. They engage with their guests, offer any support that they can and help to build up friendships to avoid isolation at home. Once a month they take a number of guests out on a bus trip to various places in the Forth Valley area.

As a Kitchen Assistant you will be assisting the main chef and other volunteers in preparing meals and general kitchen duties on a Monday and a Wednesday (9.30am - 11.30am or 11.30am - 1.30pm); or supporting kitchen duties ahead of guests at the Thursday Cafe and general kitchen duties (9.30am - 1.30pm).

Everything works on a rota system and volunteers can do as much or as little as suits them, dipping in and out of all aspects of our work or sticking to the one area, it's up to them.

Organisation aims and objectives

Village Kitchen CIC runs a portfolio of projects to support the elderly community in Clackmannanshire and the wider Forth Valley, including a meals-on-wheels-style delivery service twice weekly with doorstep befriending and wellness check. We also run a weekly community café in Dollar and monthly bus trips for seniors to green spaces and local tourist spots. Our aims focus on reducing inequalities by supporting elderly beneficiaries to participate in community activities and social opportunities, improving nutrition and quality of life by accessing home-cooked meals, reducing loneliness and isolation and improving overall mental health and wellbeing. We offer a wide range of outside catering services, including hotfork buffet, sandwich buffet, cakes and celebration platters.

Experience required: The Village Kitchen are looking for genuine, kind, caring people who are willing to help and can work in a team. No experience is necessary.

Help to combat feelings of loneliness, isolation and malnutrition amongst older people (55+) by becoming a Volunteer Cook. You do not need to be a Jamie or Nigella to get involved – just the ability to prepare an extra portion of your meal once a week, to drop off with an older neighbour and have a light hearted blether with them. The role is fun, flexible and can be done at a time that suits you and your matched member! The Role: · Paired with an older person to prepare an extra portion of your home cooked meal and deliver it to them at their home. · Have a wee chat, agree times and dates for the next meal and serve up/help put the meal away as required. · To report back to Food Train Connects team and complete all required documentation after each visit. · To report any matters of concern to Food Train staff · To inform Food Train Staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints · To maintain confidentiality · To represent Food Train in a professional manner to customers and the wider community

Dementia Café Volunteers

*Dementia Café Volunteers* We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic and caring volunteers who can help us at the Living Well Cafés we have at Newhills Church, Bucksburn AB21 9SS, Oldmachar Church, Bridge of Don AB22 8PR, High Church Hilton, Aberdeen AB24 4NQ and Ferryhill Parish Church, Aberdeen AB11 6UD. Volunteer Cooking/Baking Class Tutor Volunteers

We are seeking kind people to help run a cooking class and teach recipes you like to share! If you don't feel comfortable teaching a class, you could show your cooking/baking skills at our Youth Club, Phoenix Club and/or Pensioners Club! The classes are built around you: age group, number of participants and length of the classes. It's a great opportunity to gain confidence and skills!
