Description

Join a Fife-wide charity to support and develop the effective governance of the organisation.
Thier key aim is to listen, provide people with a voice and respond to need by helping people to identify and access the services and resources which help them to remain independent and healthier for as long as is practicable, alongside encouraging people to utilise their own strengths and assets to help improve their circumstances and well-being.
As a Board Member you will have a key role in strategic decision-making, ensuring good governance and will be required to carry out your duties in line with legal responsibilities.

Experience required: Applicants are expected to be good ambassadors for the organisation and work within the parameters of good governance and the law; they should be inclusive and adopt a non-discriminatory approach. It would be beneficial if applicants have a background in HR, financial management, advocacy (collective and issue based), governance, and community activism.
Minimum age: 16

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Public transport or mileage rates (45p per mile) will be reimbursed
Training details: An induction process involves issuing a Governance Brief with a role description and signposting to information and organisations including those which provide training relevant to the role.

Volunteers like you are central to what our service is all about - ensuring our Bureau is rooted within Shetland community and bringing your own gifts and experience to help ensure that people in the Shetland Community have access to the advice they need. Our burau is a charity, set up for public benefit, and one of the main duties of a trustee is to be responsible for the strategic management of the bureau and set a vision for the organisation. The Board must ensure that it adheres to all legal requirements (e.g. company, charity and employment). Good governance and setting standards as an exemplary employer are key.

Following a very successful International Street Food festival last year we are launching a new Community Interest Company to make this an annual event. We want to demonstrate how much our area benefits from having people of different backgrounds and cultures enrich our society. The festival is a mix of community groups whom we help to take part and commercial enterprises who pay for their stalls. An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Friends Shed. We are a relatively new organisation based in Lanark. Our service provides support to service users in Lanark and Hamilton for people aged from 16 - 35 years old who need one to one support in their daily lives and are looking for an opportunity to meet others for shared experiences and activities. The Friends Shed is an unincorporated organisation with a constitution and we are looking to recruit new Board members to participate in the governance and achievement of the strategic objectives of the organisation. The current Board has a diverse combination of skills and experiences. Candidates with a background in general administration, current or previous voluntary sector experience would be particularly welcomed but not a condition as full training will be given. Some of the duties board members are expected to take part in are: • Attend board meetings monthly. • Ensure good governance of the organisation. • Contribute to policies. • Development and Sustainability of the service. • Foster positive working relationships within the Friends Shed Team. • Collectively with other board members, oversee the current service and development of future projects and contribute proactively to the Board in reaching quality decisions. We meet every month for around 2 hours and have occasional correspondence in between meetings for any business that cannot wait until the next meeting.
