Description

Steward for the OH!CON Comic Con:
• To be a visible helper throughout the venue
• Circulate through venues to provide help and assistance
• Guide people to different areas and events- be familiar with the programme
• Refer to First Aiders if assistance needed
• Keep an eye out if any behaviour issues or people in need of assistance and refer if needed
• Provide general support and help

Organisation aims and objectives

OH!CON was established in 2020 to organise and run a comic con for the Outer Hebrides. It has grown to now include several supporting activities throughout the year. The con is an annual event and the date for this year is Saturday 12 October 2024. OH!CON celebrates nerd and popular culture through a programme of events and activities inspired by comics, art, science fiction, fantasy, film, animation, gaming, design, prop making, cosplay and other creative pursuits. OH!CON supports a diverse, inclusive audience and addresses social isolation by a gathering for like-minded people of all ages.

Stewards would need to make themselves available for a few hours training before the comic con, and would be willing to do a shift of at least 5 hours on the day of the con, Saturday 12 October. Subsistence will be provided.

One off Induction in the week of OH!CON

Restrictions

Experience required: No specific experience is required, but some customer service experience would be an advantage. Stewards will need to use their initiative to wander around a venue to be visible and recognise if someone needs assistance or recognise if an issue needs to be resolved. There will always be support via the registration desk.
Travel details: The comic con will take place in Stornoway town centre. Volunteers must be able to get to the venue.
Minimum age: 16

Support

Expenses details: No expenses but all subsistence provided, plus a follow up thank you celebration.
Training details: Induction: evening in the week of OH!CON

Knitting Volunteer (Dunblane)

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) encourages and supports people aged 50+ to volunteer in their local communities. We are looking for people who are interested in knitting items for charity. We have 2 Knitting Groups, one in Alloa and one in Dunblane. Both meet in person every 3 months and are an opportunity for knitters to get together, make friends, and compare knitting projects. The group offers free wool, advice, and support. Knitters knit various items such as blankets, hats, and scarfs which are donated onto care homes and other charities. Other knitting materials include premature baby clothing which is gifted to the NHS. Knitters choose what they would like to create, and how they would like their knitting to be donated. Event Coordinator

We are looking for enthusiastic Event Coordinators to help plan and execute community events. You will be responsible for coordinating logistics, managing volunteer teams, and liaising with partners to ensure successful events. OH!CON Merchandise Sales

Merchandise Sales for the OH!CON Comic Con: • Look after OH!CON merch table • Sell items and process card sales on SUM UP system • Record cash sales • Answer queries and point people to activities as needed • Take responsibility for all sales items, look for t-shirt sizes, etc. • Sell raffle tickets • Keep register for the cosplay masquerades
