OnFife is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help create a warm and welcoming environment for visitors. If you love engaging with people, talking about fascinating exhibits, and gathering valuable feedback, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

The Paton Exhibition will run from 14 September 2024 to 9 February 2025, and volunteers can get involved with:

  • Welcoming visitors
  • Engaging with guests
  • Answering questions
  • Gathering feedback
  • Providing information
  • Guiding visitors to other activities, events and services at OnFife
    As a volunteer, you can deepen your knowledge of Fife’s diverse culture and heritage. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills, gaining experience in communication and cultural engagement; meet new people with interests in arts, heritage and culture; enhance your confidence through meaningful interactions; and make a difference by inspiring visitors.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Creative Development Team lead the development and implementation of Fife's Cultural Strategy for Fife Council and the Health and Wellbeing Alliance. The team works with local organisations and groups to widen public access to, and increase participation in cultural and creative opportunities with the aim of improving the overall wellbeing of Fifers.

Restrictions

Experience required: Volunteers should be friendly and outgoing, enjoying interacting with visitors and making them feel welcome. You should have an interest in arts, heritage and culture, and should be confident in engaging with visitors, starting conversations and asking visitors to complete evaluation surveys.
Travel details: Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries. OnFife can help volunteers to make travel arrangements such as providing directions, parking and public transport information.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: They cover public transport costs. Mileage is calculated at 45p per mile for cars 25p per mile for motorcycles and 5p per passenger per mile.
Training details: When you join our volunteer team, they ensure you’re fully prepared and supported every step of the way: - Welcoming Induction: Meet their friendly staff, enjoy a tour of the venue and facilities. - Ongoing Support: Your volunteer supervisor and their dedicated venue staff will be there to support and guide you throughout your time with them. - Engage with Curators: Interact with their knowledgeable curators and learn more about the exhibitions.

Mortuary Chapel Western Cemetery Arbroath DD11 4HA • The Mortuary Chapel was designed by Patrick Allan-Fraser as a memorial to his late wife Elizabeth and her deceased parents John Fraser and Elizabeth Parrot Fraser. Work began in 1875 based on an outline plan by Allan-Fraser to which he added details as building progressed. • Everyone who visits quickly realises that this is a remarkable building, possibly the most unusual and most instantly appealing of the many fine buildings within Arbroath. However, it is also very important on a national scale. It could claim to be one of the best buildings of its date in Scotland. • The building is also notable for its eclectic mix of styles, including reference to Scottish, English and possibly other precedents from East European Gothic. Every part of the building is important because every part received great care in design. • The Mortuary Chapel is located in the Western Cemetery. Tours will be available at 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm, led by Hospitalfield Volunteer Tour Guides. Booking is not required for this venue, however access will be by tour only. • The chapel has one step on entering and the upper levels are up a number of stairs. Dogs are not allowed inside the mortuary chapel (unless an assistance/guide dog).

Seasonal Tour Guide Volunteer

We’re looking for friendly, sociable people to bring HMS Unicorn’s history to life for our visitors. We’re the oldest ship in Scotland so there’s lots of stories to tell about our past! You will be trained to give tours of HMS Unicorn to our visitors and answer their questions. You’ll develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for our historic ship combined with excellent customer service and communication skills. Volunteers will be given relevant training and support by the Volunteering, Engagement and Learning Officer. Giving tours will involve being able to move between decks using the ladderways (only ways of access) around the ship. The key tasks will include: • Learning about the history of HMS Unicorn. • Working with members of the public – giving tours and answering questions in a helpful and friendly way. • Supporting the Museum staff in acting as the main point of welcome for all visitors to HMS Unicorn. Steam Locomotive Onboard Volunteers

We have a number of roles including - Chef for the Locomotive Crew - Retail sales selling the charity merchandise - Carriage Hosts to look after our passengers, taking special care of those who may be less mobile. Rail Tours start from Edinburgh go across the Forth Road Bridge and up to Aberdeen and return, Glasgow to Aberdeen. Other routes to be confirmed very soon.

Poppyscotland Bud Heritage Volunteers

*About Bud: Bud is Poppyscotland’s brand new vehicle for exploration and learning, a truck that transforms into a mobile community space, comprising a mini poppy factory, micro-museum and with interactive learning opportunities. Bud is an interactive experience that encourages visitors to create their personal remembrance journey through exploring the exhibits. It is helping us keep remembrance relevant all year round. *About the opportunity: As a Bud Heritage Volunteer, you will support the delivery of the Bud project when Bud is in your area. This could see you supporting in one of the key tasks below: -Welcome members of the public and groups (schools, girl guides, brownies, cubs, cadets etc.) visiting Bud on their arrival -To deliver activities both indoor and outdoor as planned by the Bud team -To assist with evaluation of Bud by encouraging feedback and collecting data -To be flexible in the performance of the post and undertake duties requested by the Bud team -Support the staff team in set up and take down at visits and events.
