Description

Our new Adult Services program comprises a number of services, each providing an element of support enabling our service users to manage their lives and improve their overall health and wellbeing. We are recruiting for Supportive Transport Drivers, Escorted Shoppers and Home Support Volunteers. Those applying for any of the roles within the Live Well program have the option of volunteering across multiple services if they choose to.

The roles we offer are exciting, fun and rewarding. We provide training and opportunities that will improve your life skills, boost your CV and help you meet new people. You will learn about HIV and Hepatitis C, the impact of Stigma and Discrimination, Trauma-Informed practice, Safeguarding, Boundaries, First Aid and more. You will meet Service Users and volunteers throughout your training.

To relieve the suffering and distress of adults and children in Edinburgh and the Lothian area who are infected or affected by HIV/ AIDS and Hepatitis C and their families, friends and carers.

A flexible service which runs Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. We do ask volunteers to provide us with a specific day/time which they are available in advance. This is so we can plan effectively.

Restrictions

Need a full UK driving license for this role.
Experience required: We are looking for friendly and understanding volunteers who are ready to support individuals to a range of appointments to support their care and growth.
Travel details: You will be setting off from your home address then travelling to Service User’s homes to pick them up. You do not require your own car but will need a full UK drivers license
Minimum age: 17

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: After each session you will complete an expenses form. You can claim money back for the cost of public transport/fuel. You will then be reimbursed within a week of submitting the form.
Training details: Training includes HIV and Hep C; stigma and discrimination; boundaries; Adult protection protocols and trauma informed approaches, First Aid. There are support meetings every 6 months, training and peer support sessions.

Driver

Are interested in becoming a volunteer driver? Do you enjoy driving and helping people? If you have your own vehicle and able to offer regular commitment, we have opportunities available in Angus and Dundee. We are looking for volunteer drivers to help us transport: - adults to day care - children to school - people to their GP or hospital appointment - people with learning disabilities to college. We pay your mileage expenses and provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Adult Supportive Transport Driver

The Supportive Transport service is our most popular service. It offers lifts to people who are living with or affected by HIV and/or Hepatitis C to attend vital medical, social care and welfare appointments. Our clients often struggle to travel independently due to limited mobility, social anxiety or financial constraints. Some are socially isolated and value the company of their driver. Providing a listening ear to help a Service User process what has been told to them at an appointment is of great benefit. Many tell us they would not attend vital medical appointments without having someone to support them in getting there. Our drivers provide much more to our service users than just a lift! Supportive Transport volunteers also deliver medication and provide lifts to essential food shops. You do not need your own car to apply for this role but you must have a full driving license with a good record of safe driving. You can use your own car for this role or an Enterprise hire car. Voluntary Services Driver

Would you be willing to help people access essential services and social activities in Angus? Could you be a volunteer driver? We are looking for drivers who can help us provide a volunteer driver service to assist service users to access school, appointments, meetings and access community activities as requested by Voluntary Services. The main tasks involve: • Safely transporting service users including young people, older people and people with disabilities • Assisting people in and out of the car • Helping people to their front door • Assisting with bags • Maintaining appropriate boundaries in relationships • Maintaining confidentiality • Taking responsibility for ensuring car seats are appropriate for car and child being transported. You will need to be: • A confident driver • Willing to use your own vehicle and have business insurance cover • Enjoy meeting people • Show empathy, patience and reliability • Availability 2-3 hours daily • Be comfortable working on own initiative but know when to seek support We are looking for volunteers who can offer 2-3 hours per week with a minimum period of 6 months commitment. Induction training is mandatory and includes confidentiality, personal safety, protecting people, lone working, communication skills and values. Other training may be offered, such as manual handling, dealing with difficult behaviour, working with people with disabilities. A PVG will be required.
