Description

We are seeking Trustees to join our Board, and in particular someone to take up the role of Secretary. We also have opportunities for a Trustee to lead our Fundraising Team (assisted by our parent group)
A Trustee of Tweedbank Early Learners will work with other trustees, the nursery management team, staff members and volunteers to ensure the charity is carrying out its intended purpose which is to provide the highest quality Early Learning and Childcare for children and families in our local and wider community.
The role of the Board is to safeguard and promote the Vision, Values and Aims of Tweedbank Early Learners (SCIO) to determine the strategy and structure of the charity, and to ensure that it operates in an effective, responsible and accountable manner

We are looking for caring, dynamic and committed individuals, who will help to drive our charity forwards.
Both challenging and rewarding in equal measure, our trustee roles will provide you with an opportunity to support a local charity and really make a difference.

Organisation aims and objectives

OUR SETTING Tweedbank Early Learners has been set in the heart of our community for over 40 years We have designated space within Tweedbank Community Centre, and have free flow access to part of the Community Garden, which is safe and securely fenced in ​ ​ REGISTRATION AND PARTNERSHIPS ​ We are registered with The Care Inspectorate to provide places for children from the age of 2 years to entry into primary school, they carry out inspections of our setting to ensure we are meeting The Health and Social Care Standards We are also subject to Education Scotland inspections. Reports are displayed on our foyer notice board ​ We work in partnership with Scottish Borders Council to provide Early Learning & Childcare for children aged 3 years until they attend Primary One. These places are funded from the term after your child’s 3rd birthday. Our partnership status is subject to a comprehensive set of terms and conditions and strict regulation ​ We are a member of Early Years Scotland, and through them we receive support, advice and also Public Liability Insurance cover which is revised and renewed annually ​ ​ HOW WE OPERATE Tweedbank Early Learners Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation known as Tweedbank Early Learners (SCIO) is a not for profit charity. We are registered with The Scottish Charity Regulator, OSCR, and are governed by a Board of Trustees. The manager is in charge of the day to day running of the setting, and also sits on the board

Frequency and commitment details

Commitment: The Board meets once each month. The timing of these meetings can be planned to suit the Trustees, and last no longer than 1 hour Approximately ½ a day per month in addition

Restrictions

Trustees must be PVG checked before they commence their role. If you are not already a member of the PVG scheme, you will need to join or obtain an update (which Tweedbank Early Learners will organise and there will be no cost to Trustees)
Experience required: The Board of Trustees collectively needs to have skills and experience in the following areas: • Human Resources, Staff Management, Employment Law • Finance and Business Administration • Administration (Secretarial skills) • Marketing • Charity fundraising, identifying funding opportunities and submitting grant applications Previous Charity Board experience is desirable but not as important as a passion for our work, a commitment to supporting our staff at all levels, and a desire to make a positive contribution along with the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to make decisions for the good of the charity.
Travel details: We have permanent space within Tweedbank Community Centre, Tweedbank, Galashiels, TD1 3RT

Expenses details: This is a voluntary appointment and as such is unpaid. Expenses are not reimbursed presently, consumables such as stationery will be supplied to you, printing etc can be done in the nursery

Board Member/Charity Trustee

Ayrshire Tigers PFC is a community-based Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) based in Ayr which works in partnership with the Scottish Powerchair Football Association (SPFA) to provide equal opportunity for powerchair users in Ayrshire to engage in team sport. This is a rewarding opportunity to join the founding charity trustees of Ayrshire Tigers Powerchair Football Club, to help it develop, grow and become sustainable. In an increasing challenging financial environment, we are seeking to increase our working partnerships, improve our effectiveness, continue to develop creative approaches to meet need and increase our income. To help achieve this, we are seeking new volunteer Board Trustees, particularly those with an appropriate level of the following knowledge, skills or experience:  Grant Funding Applications  Fundraising  Marketing (selling and promoting the club in the community)  Admin  Social Media  Club Development As a trustee you will help to set and maintain the charity’s vision, mission and values. You will also help to ensure that the charity: • pursues its charitable purposes as defined in its Governing Document • complies with relevant legislation or regulations • works towards sustainability by developing a funding strategy • maintains the financial stability of Ayrshire Tigers PFC, • resources are well managed and used effectively. As a trustee you will also be involved in appointing and supporting Ayrshire Tigers PFC volunteers. New Trustees should be able to attend at least 75% of meetings per year, actively participate, to read papers in advance of meetings and participate in other tasks as arising from time to time. It is important to note that no one individual is responsible for the governance of the charity, rather we act collectively and make decisions based on collective responsibility. Not had experience as a trustee? Don’t worry - We have support in place to support all new trustees. A full UK driving license is desirable but not essential. In return for your time, the club will provide any training deemed necessary and put you through your PVG. Trustee

Shetland Women's Aid are looking for women to join us in promoting the safety and wellbeing of women and children in Shetland who are affected by domestic abuse and gender-based violence. SWA is a registered charity funded by local and national grant aid to provide safety planning, counselling, refuge, advice and guidance about housing, finance and legal issues to women. There is also a children and young person's service focused on offering therapy and support to children and young people. The aim for Shetland Women's Aid is 'An equitable society in which women, children and young people are valued participants, able to determine their own future and are free from all forms of abuse.'
