As part of our role in making more children, more active, more often, we are seeking volunteers to help set up and run a variety of activities. Our activities mostly take place outside curriculum time but can sometimes take place during the school day. Groups usually consist of around 10-20 children. We will consider any activity that will help the children to be active and that they will enjoy- this could take the form of sport, walking, fun games, fitness activities or even gardening! For example, a volunteer may wish to run 6 weeks of after-school badminton or football at their local primary school for an hour a week. Or maybe they prefer to help out with playground games at lunchtime. We can also supply a volunteer to assist them.

This is an activity group for the young people of Salsburgh and incudes arts and crafts and games, including archery, dodgeball and long jump.

-The Role- You will be an Activity Leader at an Over The Wall residential camp, supporting and empowering children and young people with long-term health conditions. -About Organisation- At Over The Wall, we help children, young people and their families, reach beyond the boundaries of their health challenges to discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities. We do this by providing free of charge, transformative activity camps throughout the UK. For children and young people experiencing health challenges, quality of life is adversely affected by isolation and their inability to participate in many of the everyday activities enjoyed by their friends and peers. This often results in a growing lack of self-esteem and confidence which can become a barrier to future growth and development. At our residential camps, we offer a medically and physically safe environment that allows young people affected by health challenges to step outside of their comfort zones, establish friendships and build their confidence through meaningful and exciting activities. (We sleep in comfy beds not in tents!) -Scotland Camps- 5th-7th July for the Family Camp at Strathallan School, Perth, PH2 9EG. This camp is for families to come together, as long as one child or young person is aged 8-17 years. 8th-12th July for the Health Challenge and Siblings Camp at Strathallan School, Perth, PH2 9EG. This camp is for children or young person aged 8-17 years with a health challenge and / or their siblings to attend. They will be allocated a team based on age (8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17) and all activities will be targeted to their age group. There will also be medical care run by our own nurses, with the help of doctors, nurses and paramedics doing home from home care. -Role Description- Activity Leaders are an essential part of camp, helping create a fun, safe and supportive environment for children and young people affected by long-term health conditions to have fun and build confidence. Supported by other volunteers, you will lead imaginative and exciting activities that our activity team have created prior to camp. Our activities are designed around the principles of Therapeutic Recreation meaning they are accessible and focused on the individual success of each camper. Your role will include setting up, facilitating and packing away the activity, as well as attending activity meetings during the camp day. Each activity has an extensive activity plan and will be taught to you to ensure you can lead it confidently. In previous years, these activities have included cardboard car racing, graffiti art and silly sports! Activity Leaders will be assigned a cabin group to support outside of activity and rest time. This support can look like building fantastic relationships, sitting with campers at mealtimes, or supporting evening ‘cabin chats’. In general terms, we ask our volunteers to adhere to health and safety and safeguarding principles, and to get stuck in with the unique magic of camp life, bringing a sense of joy into all they do. Pre-calls will be organised before camp for you to ask questions and meet other volunteers. You will be asked to arrive at camp one day early (or 10am on Friday for Family Camp) to complete training, such as Safeguarding and Basic Medical Training. Lastly, any new volunteers will also be placed with experienced volunteers and a support team will be present at all times.
