Description

Greener Kirkcaldy are looking for Active Travel Assistants to be based in their Active Travel Hub at Lang Toun Cycles in Kirkcaldy High Street providing advice on active travel. Active travel includes walking, cycling and wheeling as well as modes of travel that are more energy efficient eg using public transport instead of the car. Active travel benefits the environment and the travellers’ physical and mental health. You would be providing information on how best to travel actively by helping to plan and offer safe routes to walk or cycle or Information on the cheapest public transport options i.e. advanced public transport tickets and travel cards. In the role you would enjoy the support of the Active Travel Hub staff and Greener Kirkcaldy’s volunteer coordinator. If you are interested in doing something for the environment, public wellbeing and meeting new people, go and volunteer with them.

Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people through fuel poverty and food insecurity. We deliver a range of projects, events and skills training to achieve the needs and goals of local people – building resilience as a community and working towards a future where everyone can live better and tread more lightly on our planet. Based in the heart of Kirkcaldy – with a community building, training kitchen, bike shop and garden – we carry out activities across Kirkcaldy and work with partners to deliver projects across Fife

Under 16 year olds would require parental concent
Experience required: A little knowledge or enthusiasm for Active Travel would be appreciated, as well an understanding of the principles behind it ie reducing carbon emissions and that its good for your health.

Expenses details: Volunteer can submit public transport receipts.
Training details: Volunteers will be offered an induction, and ongoing training in use of software and how to access the appropriate information on travel times, routes and route planning. Other Greener Kirkcaldy training includes 1st aid, manual handling and 1st conversations in climate change.
