Come and join Team Macmillan at the Loch Ness Marathon 2024. As well as having fun cheering on our incredible runners, you'll be raising awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support and doing whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.

We have one volunteer cheerpoint by the Dores Inn, Inverness. Please be aware that there will be road closures on the day of this event and that the timings listed may be subject to change by event organisers. Exact details for timings and location will be confirmed in your volunteer brief sent a few weeks before the event.

We try to be as flexible as possible so please speak to a member of the team if you're unable to commit to one of the full shifts listed or have any concerns.

Organisation aims and objectives

Founded in 1911, Macmillan Cancer Relief (formerly Cancer Relief Macmillan Fund) works to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Each year they help more than 200,000 people throughout the UK. They provide funding for Macmillan nurses, doctors and other posts, provide patient grants, fund building developments or refurbishments and provide an information service. They can help by giving benefits advice and showing you how to fill in forms and apply for grants. Find local services on the website.

Restrictions

Anyone aged 16-17 can volunteer with parental consent. Anyone under 16 can volunteer with a supervising adult.
Experience required: No formal skills are required. We're looking for people with enthusiasm who will help us support Macmillan runners taking part in the Loch Ness Marathon - whether that's by cheering, waving and offering a warm smile.

Training details: You will receive a full brief beforehand and someone from Macmillan will be there to support volunteers on the day.

For example, attending a local Twilight Walk or promoting The Big Bake to local companies. What impact will you have? By amplifying The Charity's voice in your local area, you'll help increase the impact of fundraising campaigns & help grow funds and support us in accelerating a cure for everyone affected by a brain tumour diagnosis. We’re looking for people who are:  Passionate about the Charity and our vision  Flexible and willing to get involved as and when opportunities arise  Confident and comfortable in undertaking presentations to a wide range of audiences  Skilled at spotting new opportunities to raise awareness and funds  Friendly, approachable and able to communicate at all levels  A team player, who is also able to work on their own initiative

Fund Raiser Volunteers

Our mission is to deliver urgent medical samples, equipment and supplies free of charge between hospitals, healthcare sites and laboratories in the North East of Scotland when Healthcare Providers’ own transport services do not operate. We need Fundraisers to help us raise the revenue to continue doing our service for completely free to the end user. A fantastic opportunity to help and make a real difference. Health and Charity Walk Volunteers

Are you keen to make a difference in the lives of others and support girls in need? Then The’ Walk to Give Her a Voice’ is for you. This health and charity walk is the first of its kind in Scotland, taking place in Aberdeen city, mainly city centre and Aberdeen beach area. It is a bold statement of unity and solidarity for period related diagnosis and issues and providing support for women and girls. The Walk to Give Her a Voice charity event wouldn’t be possible without the help of our amazing network of volunteers – The Champs! Join this fantastic team and help us raise funds to help vulnerable girls in need with first period kits. Take away anxiety and stigma from periods and keep girls in school, whilst having fun, making friends and creating memorable experiences that will last forever. By volunteering with us, you'll be part of a movement dedicated to raising awareness and supporting those affected by period-related challenges. Whether you can lend a hand with event setup, registration, guiding participants along the walk route, or simply spreading the word, your contribution is invaluable.
