Description

Oshay’s Centre is the home of Oshay's Brain Domains CIC which focuses on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) education and advocacy. It provides education to professionals, schools, parents, and children about what FASD is and how it affects individuals’ brains and those around them. Oshay’s also offers resources and a sense of community to empower and support families and professionals working with individuals with brain-based disabilities. Additionally, our work extends to supporting various neurodiverse conditions like ADHD, Trauma, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, falling under the umbrella of “Neurodiversity.” Additionally, we have recently launched a much needed Child Contact, Mediation and Counselling Service within our Centre.

Oshay’s are looking for Volunteer Drivers to pick up and drop off children/parents/carers at our Centre in Ayr and at community venues for supervised and supported family contact sessions. Volunteer drivers would require to use their own cars (Business Insurance required).
Volunteer drivers would not be involved in supervised contact sessions but in driving participants to and from meeting venue.

Organisation aims and objectives

Oshay's Brain Domain's FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders) has a new premises called The Centre in Ayr. We offer support for families, schools and professionals to understand the neurobehavioral approaches of children affected by FASD. We provide sensory groups for all ages, parent support groups and birth parent support group. Offering a non-judgmental and safe place for carers to share their experiences.

Thank you for your interest in our Driver Volunteer Role. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? If you have a full driving licence, have a 4 or 5 door car, and have some time to spare, you can make a real difference by transporting cancer patients within Ayrshire to and from various hospitals, locally and in Greater Glasgow for treatment. Our service users are required to attend appointments at a wide range of times, generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Our Driver Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Drivers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Driver Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Safely transport patients from their homes to hospital and back at pre-arranged times. No formal patient transport experience or skills are required, however, a valid Driving Licence held for a minimum of 5 years is essential. You will be eligible to claim expenses for associated mileage whilst volunteering when using your own vehicle, in line with current HMRC allowances. Volunteer Transport Driver

Opened in 2019, the Health and Wellbeing Centre at Dumfries House provides a range of holistic services to the local community. Services are GP and patient-led, with referrals from primary and secondary care providers. Run by The Prince’s Foundation, it provides an Integrated Health and Wellbeing Programme, with the centre also open to health charities and other organisations. The organisation is running a range of health care programmes for the community free of charge, such as Chronic Pain, Obesity and Weight Management, and Mental health courses. These are open to anyone in Ayrshire. Although based at the wonderful Dumfries House Estate at the health and wellbeing centre, this location might also be problematic to people who would like to join but do not have the means and ways to get to the estate since there is no public transport links. Volunteer drivers would support both us as a foundation but more importantly the participants. Volunteer drivers transport people from their homes to Dumfries House and back to their residences, using their own vehicles. The volunteer drivers are reassured that the participants will be assessed that they are fit to get in and out of the vehicles on their own. The different wellbeing programmes run in between 6 to 12 weeks with morning and/or afternoon sessions. Each session lasts for 3 hours and volunteer drivers can either opt to leave and return the estate or else enjoy a walk in the grounds and a complimentary tea or coffee. Personal Qualities: • The ability to be supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others. • Warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen. • Patience and understanding. • Enjoy interacting with people. • Willingness to get involved. • An understanding of the importance of a regular commitment.

Volunteer Driver

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity are looking for volunteer drivers to support vital hospital services. As one of our valued Drivers, you will visit various locations around the country, collecting and delivering items as required. Inductions with the relevant departments will be provided. Volunteers will be contacted when a collection or delivery is required, and most journeys will be planned in advance. This is a flexible role where you can choose when you are available to support, and journeys will be given based upon your preferences and availability. The frequency of assignments will vary according to request demands.
