Description

PCHP’s board provides essential support and guidance for the management of the charity. The board is non-executive in its role, in that it is not involved in direct service delivery, rather it is there to review, guide, advise and oversee, ensuring that our staff team is performing well and in line with agreed policies and procedures. Successful candidates will have excellent knowledge and experience of one or more of the following areas: fundraising, finance, marketing or HR.

Organisation aims and objectives

To alleviate the high levels of stress experienced by local people. To identify, tackle and improve the life circumstances that underlie poor health. To ensure local equity of access to health related services, resources and information.

Travel details: PCHP's address is 73 Boswall Parkway, Edinburgh EH5 2PW - it is on the route of the 14 and 19 buses. We meet from 6-8pm on the last Monday of every month. Our meetings alternate between fully remote (everyone on Zoom) and hybrid meetings (some people on Zoom and some people in the PCHP building).

Training details: New board members will receive a copy of our board member's handbook and will meet with the Chair of the Board, the Director of PCHP, the Project's staff (during a site visit) and other board members. They will also attend EVOC’s course on Trustee Roles and Responsibilities.

Volunteers like you are central to what our service is all about - ensuring our Bureau is rooted within Shetland community and bringing your own gifts and experience to help ensure that people in the Shetland Community have access to the advice they need. Our burau is a charity, set up for public benefit, and one of the main duties of a trustee is to be responsible for the strategic management of the bureau and set a vision for the organisation. The Board must ensure that it adheres to all legal requirements (e.g. company, charity and employment). Good governance and setting standards as an exemplary employer are key.

Following a very successful International Street Food festival last year we are launching a new Community Interest Company to make this an annual event. We want to demonstrate how much our area benefits from having people of different backgrounds and cultures enrich our society. The festival is a mix of community groups whom we help to take part and commercial enterprises who pay for their stalls. FCSS has been created to challenge the inflexibility of current childcare provision across the country and to ensure equity of early years’ and childcare experience for all children regardless of family circumstances, location or specific needs. We are now seeking new Trustees to join our board and help us to drive flexible childcare across Scotland. Board Trustees are responsible for the charity’s governance and strategy, and for making sure that the charity is administered effectively. Help us to tackle child poverty by making flexible childcare the rule, not the exception!
