Description

This role is all about providing stability for our dogs and finding the best possible forever homes and the best foster carers for our dogs.

Homecheck volunteers are essential to make sure that any potential foster or forever home is safe and appropriate for the dogs needs.
You will visit potential homes and assess them based on criteria like the layout, space, garden and the family, their routines and try to establish what the dogs life would be like in that home.

You will receive full training and a form for this role.

The final decision rests with our trustees, but you will gather the information to help them decide.
When we have potential homes to be checked we let our local home checkers know the postcode areas and they let us know if they are available. This is an ad hoc opportunity dependent on your availability and the homes we are getting applications from.

Travel expenses are paid.

If you are interested please click the ‘Apply’ button (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org

Organisation aims and objectives

Originally set up in England 1971 by Mr Vic Pounds, a branch was later opened in Glasgow in the following year by Mrs Joanna Mason. The Scottish rescue as it is today was started in 1973 by Kay Carmichael (now the Dowager Duchess of Hamilton). We are very proud to have Dowager Duchess of Hamilton, Kay Hamilton, as our Patron – she is the very reason the rescue exists and maintains this link with the rescue after decades of helping staffies. The Rescue operates all over Scotland. Individual members of the Committee each take a share in the workload. They are supported by a number of volunteers. Following the initial contact from an owner wishing to surrender their dog to the rescue, a member of the rescue will discuss with them what might be the best future for the dog. We can sometimes provide temporary foster homes. Should the dog require neutering, vaccinating or microchipping, this will be arranged. We also now look to provide behaviourist support for dogs needing a little bit more help. Staffordshire bull terriers, also known as staffies, are a gentle and loving breed and especially good with children. They are enthusiastic, playful, energetic, loyal, intelligent, affectionate and always give 110% to everything they do! The staffie is the only breed of dog to have the words 'totally reliable' in it's breed standard and is also only 1 of 2 out of 190 recognised breeds to have a mention for the breed's suitability with children. Staffies are commonly known as "the nanny dog."
