Description

To help maintain a Community Garden with the opportunity to harvest organic fruit and vegetables when they are ready to eat. To improve your health and well-being and gain confidence in growing food.

Our volunteer work involves weeding and preparing the beds and ground for planting; watering the garden and polytunnel; pruning and propagation of fruit bushes and fruit trees; mowing the grass; planting seedlings and re-potting plants; harvesting fruit and vegetables; filling up the water butts; tidying of sheds/tools; recording harvests; preparation of veg/fruit boxes; harvesting the orchards; topping up compost on beds; rotating the 3 compost beds; helping others in the garden; sharing knowledge and ideas to improve the garden; reporting any damage to the garden; help with fundraising.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Glebe is a Community Garden run by a small committee and volunteers to improve the health and well-being of individuals coping with Mental Health issues and to support people to regain their confidence with a health diagnosis.

Restrictions

Experience required: No skills or experience is required as we will support you to learn how to grow your own fruit/vegetables or those in the Community garden. We will help you gain skills and confidence in growing produce. If you have any gardening skills/experience in any of the above roles described that will be a great help to run the garden but is not a necessity to volunteer in our community garden.
