Cycling Without Age Scotland are recruiting Volunteer Pilots to take the elderly and disabled for trips across Forth Valley. You will get full training, and will require PVG disclosure. More information can be found on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/CWAFalkirk A Volunteer Trishaw Pilot is the cyclist who is responsible for all aspects of preparing for and conducting a ride, post-ride duties (e.g. required records) and promoting awareness of, encouraging support for and maintaining the reputation of Cycling Without Age Scotland. The decision as to whether a Co-Pilot is required on the ride should be based on the route assessment. The Pilot must complete the 5-stage training as detailed in the Trishaw and Pilot Handbook, which may be amended/updated from time to time and covers: 1. Getting to know the Trishaw 2. The Passenger’s Experience 3. Trial Runs 4. First Rides 5. Conducting route and risk assessments followed by a final assessment.

The role of Volunteers within our community was vitally important. It is recognised that support is required for a number of vulnerable and elderly people so Community Support organisations are available to provide support to those who need it most. Opportunities exist to help with administration, coordinating volunteers, shopping, driving to medical appointments, light gardening, check-in calls and collecting prescriptions for those who struggle to go out and about. There are many activities you can get involved in to help make a difference in your local community. If you have an hour or two to spare each week why not join your local Community Support organisation

What you will be doing Visit people in hospital as they are getting ready to go home. Bring people home from hospital. Help someone settle in when they first arrive home. Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service. Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community. Provide one-to-one companionship and support. For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested (This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs.
