Telephone Shopping List Caller

Description

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible.

Our Falkirk branch is currently seeking volunteers to help Falkirk Food Train collect weekly shopping lists from our shopping service members! Every week we collect approx 50 shopping lists from our members over the telephone, which are typed up and printed out and used by our volunteer shoppers in-store (Asda or Morrisons). This service is a lifeline for many, and an important source of social contact; a Food Train phone call may be the only call that person receives that day.

If you love to chat and have some spare time then please do get in touch!

Organisation aims and objectives

Food Train Connects is a registered charity, voluntary organisation and social enterprise. Since 1995 Food Train Connects has been making daily life easier for older people, providing vital services to those who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. Food Train Connects makes hundreds of grocery deliveries every week, ensuring those most in need have access to fresh groceries. Teams of dedicated local volunteers across the regions also go that extra mile by helping with household jobs, delivering books through our library service and providing much needed friendly social contact and meals through our Meal Makers and befriending services.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: We have an expenses claim form for volunteers, and we reimburse reasonable travel expenses or fuel at 45p per mile.
Taster available: Yes
Training details: We have extensive written call guides and the role will be talked through in detail during initial conversations with new volunteers (either in person or over the phone). No question is a silly question and we encourage good communication and feedback from our volunteers, especially if they would like any additional support. New volunteers are welcome to shadow someone in the office before making some calls of their own. There are plenty of staff and volunteers in the team who are always supportive and friendly. We have regular meetings with our team of volunteers to address any concerns and share training/team building opportunities, as well as running social events a few times a year to say thank you to our volunteers.
