As part of The BB you will help plan and deliver a safe and exciting programme for our young people, making sure everyone reaches their full potential and has the opportunity to gain a wide range of badges, awards, experiences, and develop skills for life. As part of our team you will be supported and empowered to deliver this and share best practice. Giving up just one hour of your week could make a huge difference.

Would you like to go on fun adventures, explore and laugh with friends? At Girlguiding they do everything from camping to campaigning! They’re all about girls and young women laughing, learning and having adventures. Why not join the fun? Their different sections cover ages 4-18, so there’s something for everyone. As a unit helper you will support leaders to deliver Girlguiding programme activities with the girls during their meetings. This includes supporting a safe girl-only space where girls can discover their full potential, creating and delivering an accessible and inclusive programme, and encouraging and supporting members in decision making. Volunteering with Girlguiding Scotland looks great on a CV, and can improve skills like teamwork, leadership, communication, creativity and IT. It’s great experience if you want a career in youthwork or education. You can get extra training like First Aid and they’ll help you every step of the way.

Our volunteers come along for a couple of hours a week on a Friday evening and get involved in facilitating our varied program for the youths, typical activities include games, sports and arts & crafts. We often participate in competitions, go on outings and arrange camp for our youths. All we ask is that our volunteers are enthusiastic, committed and able to work with children and young people. Being able to work well as part of a small team is beneficial. We have various opportunities for training for our volunteers at local and national level. You can volunteer from 14+ as a Young Leader, with a wider range of roles for those aged 18+. There’s no upper age limit. We really do welcome applications from all ages. All volunteers working with youths are required to have a PVG. This will be facilitated by the company.

Thurso Girl guides are needing new adult leaders to help to continue offering girls the opportunity to attend the Girl guides. They are particularly needing volunteers to help on Friday evenings. Training program provided and support for new volunteer leaders to help with the aims of the Girl guide association. volunteers needed post COVID due to retirement of some existing Guide Leaders.
