Would you be willing to help people access essential services and social activities in Angus? Could you be a volunteer driver? We are looking for drivers who can help us provide a volunteer driver service to assist service users to access school, appointments, meetings and access community activities as requested by Voluntary Services. The main tasks involve: • Safely transporting service users including young people, older people and people with disabilities • Assisting people in and out of the car • Helping people to their front door • Assisting with bags • Maintaining appropriate boundaries in relationships • Maintaining confidentiality • Taking responsibility for ensuring car seats are appropriate for car and child being transported. You will need to be: • A confident driver • Willing to use your own vehicle and have business insurance cover • Enjoy meeting people • Show empathy, patience and reliability • Availability 2-3 hours daily • Be comfortable working on own initiative but know when to seek support We are looking for volunteers who can offer 2-3 hours per week with a minimum period of 6 months commitment. Induction training is mandatory and includes confidentiality, personal safety, protecting people, lone working, communication skills and values. Other training may be offered, such as manual handling, dealing with difficult behaviour, working with people with disabilities. A PVG will be required.

Could you help reduce the loneliness and social isolation of an older person by becoming a volunteer driver? LinkLiving need drivers to take people to and from their social cafe at Rosyth Parkgate Community Centre. The cafe offers older people the chance to meet others for a chat over a cuppa. They also offer quizzes and a range of other activities. Your role would be the first point of contact with their members, getting to know them and building a positive relationship. This involves: - collecting one of the members from their home and bringing them to the Community Centre for 10.30am - taking them home at the end of the session, 12.30pm (stay or leave in between as you wish) - talking to, and getting to know the members - raising any concerns regarding members wellbeing with the Project Workers - attending volunteer meetings and information sessions to help you with this role - making sure your car is road worthy, taxed and properly insured. The cafe takes place on both a Wednesday and Friday in Rosyth, you can apply to volunteer for both days or select a preferred day

Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service. Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community. Provide one-to-one companionship and support. For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested (This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. We offer free transport to cancer patients and where possible their escort to all hospitals and clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Ayrshire. Patients are collected from their homes, accompanied to hospital and taken home again after treatment. This service is especially useful for patients who feel unwell, those living in rural areas, the elderly and parents taking their children for treatment. We also provide transport for the hospice and to appointments for all therapy sessions. We can only ensure to continue the service with the support of our volunteer drivers. If you can commit to a few hours of driving and waiting for patients every week or fortnight or every month, please consider volunteering with us. To safeguard both service users and drivers, we require all volunteers to be PVG checked and we do require volunteers to own a vehicle (MOT & insured) and have a clean valid driving license. We will reimburse mileage expenses for volunteers.
