Methilhill Community Children's Initiative is a community led group dedicated to providing local children and Primary 1-7 young people with opportunities to play, learn and grow.

Based within the Methilhill Community Learning Garden, they operate a programme of activities including garden-based activities, local youth clubs and outreach sessions to schools and organisations.

They have been running for 10 years. Community spirit together with meaningful learning is at the heart of everything they do.

MCCI are looking for keen, enthusiastic individuals to volunteer in their Primary 1-7 groups Outdoor Adventurers – Monday-Thursday 3-5.45pm, and Youth club, Fridays 5-8pm.

You can come along to one or all these groups to gain skills and experience of volunteering with young people.

MCCI offer a friendly atmosphere and supportive team. All groups are based outdoors.

References and PVG are needed prior to commencement. It is illegal to apply for this post if you have been barred for working with children.

Organisation aims and objectives

Multi-award winning community led charitable organisation focusing on delivering clubs and activities for the local children, young people and the wider community in Methilhill. We aim to "advance education", to advance citizenship or community development" and aim to achieve this via youth clubs and the Methilhill Community Learning Garden project. The Garden project focuses on promoting natural play and a curiosity for learning. The project aims to enhance the confidence and resilience of children and young people as well as harness a respect and appreciation of the natural world.

Experience required: A fun and friendly candidate would be ideally suited to this role. volunteering outdoors can be tough – especially in the winter so all volunteers need to be resilient. The ideal candidate should be willing to get muddy, spend time with young people and love the outdoors.
Travel details: Methilhill Learning Garden is based in Sea Road Methilhill KY8 2GW. There are bus stops within walking distance and parking is available.

Expenses details: Volunteers travel/out of pocket expenses are reimbursed on a fortnightly basis, or weekly if required.
Training details: Volunteers will be paired with a member of staff who will be their main contact. Ongoing support will also be provided by project manager. Online and in-person training is offered.

Hub/Coffee Shop support for LGBT+ Charity

We are looking for more amazing volunteers to join our Four Pillars team to help support the organisations daily operations. They would primarily help run our Coffee Shop and in turn support the LGBT+ Community who use this service. Volunteers would be an extension of the staff and asked to help meet and greet service users making any new visitors feel welcome and sharing information of any groups or events taking place which may be of interest to them. Many of our service users live alone, and have little family or friends to support them, so seeing a friendly face and being given the chance to have a cuppa and a chat for a few hours is invaluable to them. We have various groups which are held each evening, and these are peer lead, and run by our volunteers. These are closed sessions, so offer a safe, confidential environment for anyone attending. Volunteers support our staff to ensure the Coffee Shop and toilets are kept clean and tidy, throughout the day. They may also be asked support any events we run throughout the year. The largest event we run is Grampian Pride. Volunteers would be notified of any other one off opportunities by the Volunteer Coordinator as well as being invited to attend any of the internal or external training sessions which may take place. They can also participate in the brand new RAVE Scheme (Rainbow Award 4 Volunteer Excellence) which is an activity rewards system to recognise and encourage volunteer dedication and skill development within the organisation. Volunteer Youth Expedition Leaders (Lewis)

The Western Isles Duke of Edinburgh’s Award are looking for volunteer Youth Expedition Leaders. Not all expeditions are done on foot, although this tends to be logistically most simple so many are, but can also be by other forms of transport that don’t have a motor. Options include cycling, kayaking, sailing, horse-riding, coasteering, long boarding etc. If you have experience in any of these activities (or others you can think of) then we would be very happy to hear from you! Bronze expeditions are for 2 days and 1 night, Silver are 3 days and 2 night, and Gold are 4 days and 3 night. At Bronze, there is just 1 expedition to complete, but at Silver and Gold each group complete a ‘practice’ expedition at each level, and then if leaders are happy to go on to complete their ‘qualifying’ expedition, which is assessed. If expeditions are not your thing, you can help out with the ‘admin’ side of things supporting the young people with their ‘edofe’, logging on and uploading their evidence and ensuring that their profile is up to date and assessor reports are in. Training will be provided for any new volunteers. Commitment would be various hours between April – September for Expeditions and the admin role would be ad-hoc all year round.

Coach and Club Helper

To help Dalkeith Thistle Community Football Club function more smoothly on match days and training nights, help set up and keep the place tidy. Be a welcoming person to coaches/spectators of our club and visiting clubs. The role will consist of setting things up so as we are ready to function, and ensuring everything is put away properly. This includes: · Putting barriers out in the car park, and taking them down · Setting up the poles and tape around all the pitches, and taking them down · Ensuring coaches use the correct goals and equipment for their matches, helping them set up where necessary · Ensuring all equipment is put away tidily at the end, helping them dismantle where necessary · Ensuring the containers and surrounding areas are kept clean and tidy · Monitoring that spectators are keeping their distances from the pitches, and from each other This opportunity can be split between volunteers depending on how many hours a volunteer can commit to.
