Clinical Volunteer - Scotland Residential Camp

Description

-The Role-
You will be a Clinical Volunteer at an Over The Wall residential camp, supporting and empowering children and young people with long-term health conditions.

-About Organisation-
At Over The Wall, we help children, young people and their families, reach beyond the boundaries of their health challenges to discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities. We do this by providing free of charge, transformative activity camps throughout the UK.

For children and young people experiencing health challenges, quality of life is adversely affected by isolation and their inability to participate in many of the everyday activities enjoyed by their friends and peers. This often results in a growing lack of self-esteem and confidence which can become a barrier to future growth and development.

At our residential camps, we offer a medically and physically safe environment that allows young people affected by health challenges to step outside of their comfort zones, establish friendships and build their confidence through meaningful and exciting activities. (We sleep in comfy beds not in tents!)

-Scotland Camps-
8th-12th July for the Health Challenge and Siblings Camp at Strathallan School, Perth, PH2 9EG. This camp is for children or young person aged 8-17 years with a health challenge and / or their siblings to attend. They will be allocated a team based on age (8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17) and all activities will be targeted to their age group. There will also be medical care run by our own nurses, with the help of doctors, nurses and paramedics doing home from home care.

-Role Description-
Clinical Volunteers are an essential part of camp, helping to ensure a safe and supportive environment for children and young people affected by long-term health conditions to have fun and build confidence. The magic of camp can only exist with our amazing team of Clinical Volunteers facilitating a medically sound and safe camp experience for children with chronic and sometimes life-threatening illnesses by contributing to a 24/7 provision of residential medical care.

Clinical volunteers work in teams under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and Nursing Coordinators. You will be ‘campified’ by being called ‘Beach Patrol’ with your own t-shirts and beach patrol accessories. You will also be assigned a cabin group to support outside of medical duties. We ask our volunteers to get stuck in with the unique magic of camp life, bringing a sense of joy into all they do.

Are you looking for an opportunity to support young people in a non-clinical setting? If you are looking for an amazing and rewarding experience where you can help put the child back into childhood, whilst having lots of fun, then apply to be an Clinical Volunteer now!
