Description

-The Role-
You will be a Camp Teammate at a residential camp, supporting children and young people with long-term health conditions to attend and participate.

-About Organisation-
At Over The Wall, we help children, young people and their families, reach beyond the boundaries of their health challenges to discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities. We do this by providing free of charge, transformative activity camps throughout the UK.

For children and young people experiencing health challenges, quality of life is adversely affected by isolation and their inability to participate in many of the everyday activities enjoyed by their friends and peers. This often results in a growing lack of self-esteem and confidence which can become a barrier to future growth and development.

At our residential camps, we offer a medically and physically safe environment that allows young people affected by health challenges to step outside of their comfort zones, establish friendships and build their confidence through meaningful and exciting activities. (We sleep in comfy beds not in tents!)

-Scotland Camps-
5th-7th July for the Family Camp at Strathallan School, Perth, PH2 9EG. This camp is for families to come together, as long as one child or young person is aged 8-17 years.

8th-12th July for the Health Challenge and Siblings Camp at Strathallan School, Perth, PH2 9EG. This camp is for children or young person aged 8-17 years with a health challenge and / or their siblings to attend. They will be allocated a team based on age (8-10, 11-13, 13-15 and 15-17) and all activities will be targeted to their age group. There will also be medical care run by our own nurses, with the help of doctors, nurses and paramedics doing home from home care.

-Role Description-
Camp Teammates are an essential part of the camp, helping create a fun, safe and supportive environment for children affected by long-term health conditions to try new things and build their confidence. Working in a team of volunteers, you will build fantastic relationships and empower campers to try new things in activities such as archery, graffiti art and sports. At the end of each day, you will encourage them to reflect on all they’ve achieved in evening ‘cabin chats’. Camp Teammates will also look after the daytime and night-time needs of the campers in their accommodation and get stuck in with the unique magic of camp life.

Camp Teammates will supported before and during camp to ensure you have all the information you need for camp to be a great experience for you and the campers. Pre-calls will be organised before camp for you to ask questions and meet other volunteers. You will be asked to arrive at camp one day early (or 10am on Friday for Family Camp) to complete training, such as Safeguarding and Basic Medical Training. Lastly, any new volunteers will also be placed with experienced volunteers and a support team will be present at all times.

If you live nearby and would like to stay in your own accommodation, you can apply to be a Day Camp Teammate!
