Methilhill Community Children's Initiative is a community led group dedicated to providing local children and young people with opportunities to play, learn and grow.

Based within the Methilhill Community Learning Garden, they operate a 6 day programme of activities including garden based activities, local youth clubs and outreach sessions to schools and organisations.

They have been running for 10 years, and were founded by local parents and community members who wanted to provide local children with community based experiences. Community spirit together with meaningful learning is at the heart of everything they do.

MCCI are looking for volunteers to help within their small community cafe. The cafe is open term-time on Mondays and Fridays 12-2pm, serving soup, sandwiches, stovies and hot drinks. No cash handling involved.

You would help prepare and serve food, spend time with the people visiting the cafe and clean up afterwards. This could help build your confidence, meet new people, do something you enjoy, on one or both days.

Organisation aims and objectives

Multi-award winning community led charitable organisation focusing on delivering clubs and activities for the local children, young people and the wider community in Methilhill. We aim to "advance education", to advance citizenship or community development" and aim to achieve this via youth clubs and the Methilhill Community Learning Garden project. The Garden project focuses on promoting natural play and a curiosity for learning. The project aims to enhance the confidence and resilience of children and young people as well as harness a respect and appreciation of the natural world.

Experience required: Experience of customer service would be useful but not essential. A warm and friendly attitude is very welcome.
Travel details: Methilhill Learning Garden is based in Sea Road Methilhill. KY8 2GW There are bus stops within walking distance and parking is available.

Expenses details: Travel expenses paid fortnightly.
Training details: Volunteers will be paired with a member of staff who will be their main contact. Ongoing support will also be provided by project manager. Online and in-person training available, including Food Hygiene if needed

Community Cafe Volunteers

Devana Parish Church (formerly Ferryhill Parish Church) operates a great community café in the heart of Ferryhill, which creates a welcoming environment for those who attend for a morning cuppa and also for those who volunteer their services. We are requiring helpers, who can assist in the coffee shop, as it is a very popular meeting place. Helpers are required to volunteer with the team in the general running of the coffee shop. e.g. setting tables, serving coffees, clearing tables and generally tidying up. The café is located in the church but people do not need to be church members to be volunteers-everyone is welcome. All volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated. Support, mentoring and learning opportunities will be available as and when required. A brilliant opportunity to help and make a real difference in the community. Community Cafe Volunteers

YOUR LOCAL COFFEE SHOP NEEDS YOU We are looking for volunteers to help in both/at either Devana Holburn and Devana Fonthill Community Coffee Shops for a few hours once a month. Duties involve: • Setting and clearing up (all light duties) • Serving members of the public and • Occasionally helping in the kitchen Training is provided to all volunteers and all help is greatly appreciated. Both coffee shops offer a warm, friendly space to meet family and friends old and news and are staffed by willing volunteers. Community Cafe Volunteer

As a Community Café Volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting the operations of our café and foster a welcoming atmosphere for our visitors. You will assist in various tasks including customer service, food preparation and café maintenance while upholding our commitment to serving the community. 1. Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner 2. Take orders, handle cash transactions and operate the POS system with accuracy. 3. Prepare and serve food and beverages according to established recipes and quality standards. 4. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the café 5. Always adhere to food safety and hygiene guidelines. 6. Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers to ensure efficient operation of the Café. Duties may vary based on the specific needs of the Café and may be subject to change. We also have several other volunteering opportunities if catering is not your thing! These include gardening, admin, Board duties, maintenance, baking, just to name a few. There really is something for everyone at the Glencorse Centre and we love to welcome new faces to our quirky team!!
