Therapeutic/Interest Activity Volunteer

We are keen to hear from people who would be happy to lead therapeutic group activities. The types of therapeutic activities may include groups focussing on arts & crafts, football, golf, dance, film & TV, music & singing, photography, complimentary therapies, nature & gardening, sports, baking, reading, walking, local and/or family history or the sharing of other interests.

Groups would be open to People with Dementia, Carers and/or wider community interested in maintaining good brain health.

Role Description: This role will take a lead in delivering a therapeutic activity group as per interests listed above and support the people attending. The role may vary but is likely to include;

•Offering person-centred support within a therapeutic group setting.
•Communicating with people and staff within the therapeutic group setting.
•Leading therapeutic activity groups and sharing ideas, skills and interests.
•Recording attendance at the group.
•Keeping staff updated about the group activity, those attending and any concerns or matters they feel are relevant.
•Keeping up to date with Alzheimer Scotland news and our work across Scotland.

Volunteer Befriender

We're looking for an adult volunteer who will provide a supportive friendship for a socially isolated young person aged between 8 and 18 who lives in South Ayrshire. Ideally this will involve meeting with their young person every couple of weeks for a few hours, spending time together accessing local activities. This includes: • Be matched on a 1:1 basis with a young person. • Go on regular outings and activities with the young person. • Have the opportunity to participate in group outings/activities and also volunteer support sessions. • Keeping in touch with the Project about the young person’s achievements / growth and activities, and to receive ongoing support from the Bfriend team. • Open minded as we work with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds. • Following training, to be able to have empathy and understanding of some of the issues encountered by young people referred to the team. • Continuous focus on the needs of the young person who you are matched with. • Willing to participate in a broad range of activities mutually agreed with the young person. • To be a positive adult role model for the young person and, very importantly, to have FUN! • Have an awareness of and be able to adhere to Bfriend’s policies and procedures.

Kincorth Community Centre Hub Volunteers

The Kincorth Community Centre Hub has great volunteer opportunities to assist with a range of activities at the Hub. Volunteer roles include supporting our busy community cafe, which has rapidly taken off, we currently open 9.30 -2.30, but our aim is to run a breakfast and supper club, as well as have the cafe open for activities in the evening. We have a diverse community that has a lot to offer e.g.: art classes/exercise group/dance class/music lessons and we are always open to new ideas-we are more or less a blank canvass. Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers. Level 2 Hygiene Certificate will be offered to those who want to volunteer/cook in the café. Any other training would be reviewed and provided if proved relevant. A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to volunteer and help make a real difference for people and the community.
