Description

William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre is an independent hospital specialising in clinical assessment and treatment services for patients with epilepsy, epilepsy associated conditions and sleep disorders.

Patients are usually held for 2-4 weeks in the centre without being able to leave the building, so any meaningful engagement is of great benefit.

Do you have a few hours each month to share your passion or skill with our patients. For example could you teach them crafting, yoga, music, photography etc. Could you give them a talk about your life experiences. Do you enjoy holding quizzes or bingo.

By bringing your skills and experiences to our patients, you will be bringing some variety into their day.

To get the most out of the role we hope you can commit at least half a day each month for at least 6 months.

Selection Procedure will include - Application form, chat, references and PVG disclosure.

Organisation aims and objectives

Quarriers is a Scottish charity providing practical support and care for children, adults and families. We challenge poverty and inequality of opportunity and choice, to bring about positive change in people's lives. Quarriers operates 127 Projects throughout Scotland and South-West England. They vary greatly, due to the wide variety of needs that we address but include group homes and supported living services for people with physical and learning disabilities, support services and Scotland's only residential assessment service for people with complex forms of epilepsy; a residential and day school and community based projects for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties; hostels and support services for young homeless people; family centres; respite and long term care for children with a range of disabilities and other difficulties and support services for carers.

To get the most out of the role we hope you can commit at least half a day each month for at least 6 months.

Experience required: No formal qualifications are required, Group Activity Volunteers should have:- * A desire to work with people * Ability to contribute as part of a team * Understanding and commitment to working in a way that recognises values and diversity * Effective communication skills and non-judgemental approach All relevant training will be provided, including a named person to provide support. You will also have the opportunity to access other training as part of personal development.
Travel details: Parking is available at the office and there is access to public transport links nearby. Disabled access and lift access to upper floors.
