Get connected to your local community in this role with Finderne Community Council and also gain some valuable admin skills too! The Community Council is looking for a volunteer to help with taking minutes at their meetings. This is a role open to anyone 16 years of age and over. Meetings are held every six weeks on Mondays, at 7pm, and are currently being held in accessible venues in the Finderne area. You will be taking notes during meetings and then producing minutes for circulation after the meeting. You will need to be reasonably IT literate, or willing to learn.

This is a great opportunity to support a Citywide Sheltered Housing Committee and keep it independent. They meet once a month on a Thursday 2pm – 4pm in the Town Centre. There are about 30 members from all over the city and they want to remain an independent group. They have a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary but just unable to minute the meeting so would welcome your expertise. They are a highly motivated group of retired people who want to be part of their housing service. The meetings are quite informal, there is always a laugh and of course tea/coffee and biscuit is provided. A great, enjoyable opportunity to help and make a positive difference. Could you help someone understand the information they have been given about their care and support? Could you support or lead a group of people on a topic of interest? You could help improve the quality of someone’s life. This role is ideal for social work students, an interest in the care sector or retired professionals. Support Session Volunteers help our clients with general advocacy, supporting people with a variety of challenges. This helps us to reduce waitlists and support more individuals by: • Helping clients understand about advocacy • Supporting clients to self-advocate with our tool kits • Signposting clients to other services where required • Supporting the service to deliver “collective” advocacy sessions • Light Touch Advocacy • Supporting advocates with casework • Promotion of services and the organisation • Logging activity onto our systems Volunteer, Ben’s priorities changed after a serious illness. “I wanted to give something back. For those affected by a terminal illness, it can be hard to get support and they might feel lonely. By volunteering as a Check in and Chat volunteer, you'll be matched with an individual who needs emotional support and a chance to chat freely about how they're feeling.
