Description

Would you like to support people with learning disabilities to socialise and make friends? We are looking for Volunteer Event Supporters to help at and lead social events.
Our events include going to restaurants, pubs, cinema, tenpin bowling, day trips and walks. Events usually take place afternoons and evenings and last about 2 hours.
As an Events Supporter, you will attend the event and help the members to interact while they’re together. It’s all about helping them to have a safe, enjoyable and friendly time. It’s sociable, great fun and very rewarding!
A large number of people with learning disabilities feel lonely and socially isolated. Your support will help to change this.
Our events are held on different days and times each week. We appreciate and understand that volunteers are sometimes only available certain days and times.
Dates-n-mates offer a variety of training and support to our volunteers.
We're looking for a volunteer who is sociable, friendly and confident and has excellent people skills. You will be a good communicator; kind and patient when interacting with people who have different communication or mobility needs. You will be able to interact respectfully with people from a range of different backgrounds. As you will be representing Dates-n-Mates, you will be courteous and professional as well as being reliable and punctual. Volunteers must be over 18 years old.

Dates-n-Mates is Scotland’s first friendship and dating agency run by and for adults with learning disabilities. Our work is underpinned by a human rights based approach. We believe it is peoples right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved.

Frequency and commitment details

Our events are held on different days and times each week. We appreciate and understand that volunteers are sometimes only available certain days and times.

Restrictions

Experience required: Members of Dates-n-Mates need time to build trust and have a connection with our volunteers. We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months to give everyone time to get to know each other.

Event Volunteer

Parkruns are free, weekly, 5km events, bringing communities together in public parks and open spaces to have some fun in a friendly, social and supportive environment. The event at Rozelle Park in Ayr is held every Saturday morning with heaps of different ways to volunteer, including setting up the event, marshalling, timekeeping, scanning, handing out finish tokens or tail walking, to name just a few. It’s really simple to get involved: - Register once for free on our website - you will get a unique parkrun ID - Send the event an email or message on Facebook about helping out. - Come along on Saturday morning and have a fun morning helping in the community and meeting new people. The minimum age to formally volunteer is 16, although families with children over 4 are welcome to lend a hand. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No training is required, roles are fully supported on the day and you can take part as often or as little as you would like to at any parkrun event. If you want to meet new people, have fun, learn new skills, use your skills, build confidence and contribute in a positive way to your community, helping at parkrun is a great place to start! Event Volunteer

To ensure the events continued success we are on the look out for a small army of volunteers to help ensure the events run smoothly. The Montrose Triathlon takes place on Sunday, 2nd June, with Forfar taking place on Sunday, 21st July. The events are based at the superbly equipped Montrose Sports Centre and Forfar Community Campus and from there participants will swim, bike and run their way around the towns. Volunteer registration will take place at 9.30am at each venue. The events should finish around 3pm/3.30pm. As a small token of our thanks, volunteers will be provided with lunch thanks to event sponsor SCOTMID. Volunteers are pivotal to the success of our events. Without a small army of volunteers we simply couldn't deliver a safe, fun event. The support and encouragement provided by the volunteers is always really appreciated by the participants. If you are able to help, please email info@triangus.co.uk with your name, contact telephone number and emergency contact name and their number. Thank you!! No experience is necessary – full details of your role will be provided on the day. The event volunteers are vital to the success of the event – simply it cannot run without them! The volunteers make an enormous difference to the participant's and spectator's event experience. So, if yellow is your colour we would love to hear from you!!
