About the Charity

Borders Pet Rescue is a small registered Scottish charity offering animal rescue, re-homing and the promotion of responsible pet ownership through education and training across the Scottish Borders and adjoining areas. Established in 1988, the Charity’s Rescue Centre is at Craigsford in Earlston. Each year more than 200 dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and exotics are re-homed. The charity relies entirely on fundraising, donations and significant funds generated by four Borders Pet Rescue Charity Shops located in Galashiels, Kelso, Duns and Hawick. Like all animal charities, BPR relies on the generosity of the animal loving public to support the work and could not survive without the dedication of the many friends and volunteers.

About the Vacancies

Trustees
We are seeking to recruit a number of individuals with experience across any of the following skills areas:

Marketing/social media
Retail management
IT
Property/asset management
Animal welfare
HR
Applications from individuals with other relevant experience would also be welcome.

Principal duties include:

To attend bi-monthly (Jan/Mar/May/Jul/Sep/Nov) Board meetings held on a Monday evening via virtual and face-to-face meetings.
Board members are expected to participate in the charities activities and are asked to attend and support the organisation’s volunteer and fundraising events.
Time commitment: Approximately 2 days per month, including bi-monthly Trustee meetings (2-3 hours per meeting)

It is essential that Board members share a passion and commitment for animal welfare. Please note that these are voluntary roles, although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed/paid.

Organisation aims and objectives

Borders Pet Rescue (BPR) was established in 1988, as a small, registered, Scottish charity offering animal rescue, re-homing, and the promotion of responsible pet ownership through education and training across the Scottish Borders and adjoining areas. Our Rescue Centre is located at Craigsford, in Earlston. Each year we are able to find new homes for over 200 dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and exotics. We rely on donations from the public, on some fundraising, and primarily on the income raised by the four Borders Pet Rescue Charity Shops, located in Galashiels, Kelso, Duns, and Hawick. Like all animal charities, BPR relies on the generosity of the animal loving public to support the work and could not survive without the dedication of its many friends and volunteers.

A wide range of opportunities are available and include: Fosterers – a spare room to care for a cat until a new home is found. All equipment and food etc provided. Home checkers – visiting prospective new cat owners. Fostering support and co ordination – helping fosterers and organising cat food distribution, equipment etc Equipment inventory – keeping an up to date list of all equipment and its location. Transport – cats to vets etc; goods and equipment to where needed. Collecting and sorting donated goods. Storing donated goods, equipment and cat food. Fundraiser – to organise fundraising events. On line auctions – organise online auctions of donated goods. Stall helpers – assisting on stalls. Crafts – making crafts to sell. Grant applications – find and apply for appropriate grants and funding. Sunday tea staff – assisting at Sunday teas. Trustee – joining the trustees. Marketing. DIY – DIY skills to help maintain pens and equipment

Fresh Community Wellness is a growing grassroots charity, registered Scottish Charity Number, SC051346. We operate out of Aberdeen city, working within a (S.I.M.D) high neighbourhood to create lasting change and build a legacy for the future. Predominantly in Seaton neighbourhoods and outdoors, we work with volunteers/residents, with a salutogenic approach to community wellness. To help with this we have great opportunities and need people to help out as volunteers for a range of roles including: *Food growing, gardeners, greenspace management, tidy ups volunteers. *Mentors, community engagement, events, entertainers (kids, adults, 55+). *Outdoors games & sports volunteers, building outdoor areas for residents (sheltered housing seating), health. *Artists/ Sculptors to begin on our Street Art & Design projects, and sculptures. *Admin, coordinators, team lead volunteers, advisors & support volunteers. *Drop-in café helpers, advisors, cooking assistants. About the Vacancy We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to undertake the specific duties of Secretary to Board to help strengthen our governance and effectiveness. The specific responsibilities of Secretary include: • Undertaking secretarial duties in support of the BPR Chair and Trustees • Liaising with the Chair and Board of Trustees to plan, arrange and produce agendas, supporting papers and minutes of Trustee meetings and AGMs • Attendance at monthly Trustee meetings held on a Monday evening via face-to-face and virtual meetings • Ensuring that all meetings comply with the requirements of the governing documents • Dealing with correspondence including with Companies House and OSCR and other relevant governance bodies • Reviewing all BPR governance documentation in consultation with the Chair and Trustees • Organising trustee induction and any ongoing training • Managing the Company membership database • Other duties as directed by the Chair.

Committee Members

Volunteers we need you, with you inspiration and motivation to serve as a board member on the Management Board of HALLA (Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association). We are a Board of people who run daytime and evening classes at Kaimhill Learning Centre. We have a FB page ( @HALLACommunity) where you can see some of our activities and tutored classes. We meet once a month to discuss new opportunities and management issues, to find new ways of how-to bring people of all ages in the local community into the centre. We have several weekly, social, informal learning groups where Board members can get to know each other and form a friendly working relationship. A volunteer should be passionate, enthusiastic and have a keen interest in community matters. A volunteer does not necessarily require specific skills since we all support each other to develop new skills but if you have specific ones, it would be good to introduce them to the rest of the Board so we can use them to benefit the local community. The Board would appreciate people with knowledge of IT and office procedures but enthusiasm and interest in the community are equally important. This is an amazing opportunity to discover your “hidden talents” !!! You are very welcome to attend a committee meeting and see if this is for you.
