No experience necessary - just an open mind, kindness and compassion!

Our service matches volunteer mentors to young people aged between 8-14years who are on the edge of care, in a kinship arrangement or on a CSO. Our mentees are looking for a person to build and grow a positive relationship, try new activities, tackle isolation, build confidence and have fun in the community!
We provide in person training, ongoing support and a community of mentors who are there to share experiences. We are there to support you every step of the way!

Our service covers all of Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, having a car is desirable but not essential.

This role requires 2 days of training in house and subject to PVG check

Frequency and commitment details

We ask that volunteer mentors come on board with a view of being with their mentee for 12 months (this ensures a positive and impactful relationship) and we suggest meeting either once per week or fortnightly for 1-2 hours.

Restrictions

PVG required for this role.
Experience required: Mentors do not require experience to come onboard. Our in house training and ongoing support from coordinators ensures all of our mentors have the knowledge and skills to begin a meaningful and positive relationship with a young person. Our organisation focuses heavily on shared values - Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Reflection and Aspirational - if you share our values, we can teach you the rest!
Travel details: Car - you can use your own vehicle and claim mileage to travel to our head office for training and then to meet your mentee Public Transport - you can utilise public transport to meet your mentee and claim back expenses for this

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Mileage can be claimed for use of a car as well as bus/train fare. All activities are funded by ourselves and volunteers are given funds to be able to carry out activities with their young people.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: Coordinators are happy to meet prior to training for a coffee or via teams to discuss the role further. Separate taster sessions can be arranged if needed.
Training details: Our next training is being held on Saturday 20th January - the next part will be held 2 weeks later on Saturday 3rd February. Ongoing training is provided but not essential. Support is provided for the duration of mentoring.
