Volunteer Event Supporter for Dates-n-Mates

Would you like to support people with learning disabilities to socialise and make friends? We are looking for Volunteer Event Supporters to help at and lead social events.
Dates-n-mates is a friendship and dating agency for adults with learning disabilities offering social events to enable people to socialise, make friends and form meaningful relationships. Our work is underpinned by a human rights-based approach. We believe it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved.
Our events include going to restaurants, pubs, cinema, tenpin bowling, day trips and walks. Events take place afternoons and evenings and usually last 2 hours.
As an Events Supporter, you will attend the event and help the members to interact while they’re together. It’s all about helping them to have a safe, enjoyable and friendly time. It’s sociable, great fun and very rewarding!
A large number of people with learning disabilities feel lonely and socially isolated. Your support will help to change this.
We ask for a minimum of 1 event per month.
Dates-n-Mates offer a variety of training and support to our volunteers.

Frequency and commitment details

Flexible. Minimum 1 event per month. We are keen to recruit volunteers available afternoons.

Restrictions

We work with vulnerable adults so volunteers are required to join the PVG Scheme prior to volunteering with us. There is no cost involved for volunteers.
Experience required: We're looking for a volunteer who is sociable, friendly and confident and has excellent people skills. You will be a good communicator, kind and patient when interacting with people who have different communication or mobility needs. You will be able to interact respectfully with people from a range of different backgrounds. As you will be representing Dates-n-Mates, you will be courteous and professional as well as being reliable and punctual.
Travel details: Always within areas with access to public transport
Minimum age: 18

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: All volunteer expenses linked to the event will be paid for. This includes travel expenses.
Training details: We offer a variety of training including Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, First Aid Awareness and Health & Safety. Volunteers must successfully complete Adult Support & Protection training prior to volunteering.

Can you help promote services to local people in your community? Can you help at events and awareness raising sessions? You could help improve access to services in your community. This role is ideal for people who already have a connection to their community or would like to build one. The Service Team Volunteer role supports in the delivery of advocacy and other services by: • Helping clients understand about advocacy • Attending events and awareness raising activities • Networking and promoting our services and organisation • Signposting to other services • Building professional relationships and partnership working • Supporting our community engagement programmes in your local area Volunteering with VoiceAbility is ideal for people who have or want experience in human rights, health, care and wellbeing - but we care more about your values and empathy than your level of experience. Volunteer, Ben’s priorities changed after a serious illness: “I wanted to give something back. It’s really rewarding as you get to use your knowledge and skills for a really good purpose.” You’ll develop skills in communication and confidentiality, add experience and knowledge to your CV, and know you’re making a genuine difference to people’s lives.
