Description

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity are looking for volunteer drivers to support vital hospital services. As one of our valued Drivers, you will visit various locations around the country, collecting and delivering items as required. Inductions with the relevant departments will be provided.
Volunteers will be contacted when a collection or delivery is required, and most journeys will be planned in advance. This is a flexible role where you can choose when you are available to support, and journeys will be given based upon your preferences and availability. The frequency of assignments will vary according to request demands.

Organisation aims and objectives

Founded in 2001, Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity (formerly known as Yorkhill Children's Charity) was established to support children and their families treated at Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Sick Children - Yorkhill. In June 2015, the hospital moved from Yorkhill to the Royal Hospital for Children at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where we are proud to support it today. Since 2001, we have invested more than £30 million in the children’s hospital in Glasgow. This has been possible thanks to the generosity of our donors, fundraisers and volunteers, whose support ensures that Scotland’s children receive the best possible care.

Restrictions

Experience required: Have a minimum of 2 year post licence driving experience Have access to own vehicle (in good condition) with Comprehensive Insurance cover insured for driving in a volunteering role. Roadside Assistance cover for own vehicle is recommended. Please note fuel expenses will be reimbursed.  You must have a working mobile phone and active email address Good geographical knowledge of Scotland The role requires drivers to be in good health and reasonably active  A PVG check will be required and completion of an NHS Occupational Health Check questionnaire. Experience engaging with the public  Drivers will be expected to complete Drivercheck prior to volunteering for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, a link will be issued following successful interview. Drivercheck is the UK’s largest driving licence checking and vehicle compliance business. Drivers will be issued with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity branded clothing

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Expenses are reimbursed on a monthly basis. Mileage rates for essential drivers are 45p per mile.
Training details: Inductions with the relevant departments will be provided.

Volunteer Driver

Oshay’s Centre is the home of Oshay's Brain Domains CIC which focuses on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) education and advocacy. It provides education to professionals, schools, parents, and children about what FASD is and how it affects individuals’ brains and those around them. Oshay’s also offers resources and a sense of community to empower and support families and professionals working with individuals with brain-based disabilities. Additionally, our work extends to supporting various neurodiverse conditions like ADHD, Trauma, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, falling under the umbrella of “Neurodiversity.” Additionally, we have recently launched a much needed Child Contact, Mediation and Counselling Service within our Centre. Oshay’s are looking for Volunteer Drivers to pick up and drop off children/parents/carers at our Centre in Ayr and at community venues for supervised and supported family contact sessions. Volunteer drivers would require to use their own cars (Business Insurance required). Volunteer drivers would not be involved in supervised contact sessions but in driving participants to and from meeting venue. Please email info@oshays.org to find out more.

Volunteer Driver

LCTS provides wheelchair accessible transport to voluntary and community groups throughout Midlothian. The groups range from the toddlers to the elderly/infirm. There is also a wide variety in the driving, from local door to door day care to day trips to the Borders, Fife, etc. all minibus users provide an escort and there is generally a very easy going atmosphere on the bus. For many of the users, the minibus provides the only opportunity for them to get out and about, so they tend to be all the more grateful for the volunteer driver.

Volunteer Driver

We need local volunteer drivers for our vehicles, to help the elderly and disabled get out and about. It might be a shopping trip, visit to family and friends, outings, transport to clubs/meetings, hospital visits and any other long or short journeys as required. We give all our drivers MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training which is recognised throughout the UK as the standard course for volunteer drivers involved in community transport. Training includes loading and strapping in of wheelchairs. Travel expenses are paid at 40p per mile.
