Description

As a Cleaning Volunteer, you will help us maintain a clean and safe working and food production environment. Tasks can include cleaning in and around our packing hall, corridors, laundry room and toilets. You will receive full training, including shadowing another volunteer on your first shift(s). As part of the team, you will play an essential role in our service, providing free, healthy meals to those who need them.

Organisation aims and objectives

Empty Kitchens Full Hearts aims to relieve poverty in Edinburgh by providing healthy meals and follow-up support to people across the city. All our meals are made from surplus food, are free of charge and served without judgement. Since we began in April 2020,our volunteers have produced, packed and delivered more than 2 million meals to people who need them.

Restrictions

Travel details: 11 West Granton Road, Edinburgh, EH5 1HG. We are the Victorian school building just off Granton Square. Bus routes: 8,14, 6, 38, 47, 113, 200 Cycle: We have a bike shelter around the back of the building which you are welcome to use. Parking: On street free parking available, and two disabled parking bays located nearby on Granton Medway. If you would like to discuss accessible parking options further, please let us know.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: A short form must be completed to request reimbursement for travel expenses. Expenses will be paid by our accounts team, by bank transfer.
Training details: Before your first time volunteering with us, you will complete two forms, including a Food Hygiene Questionnaire. You will also need to attend a very informal induction, which involves a health and safety tour of the site, time to learn more about the roles available, and to answer any questions you might have. As a Cleaning Team volunteer, you will receive chemical training and be supported by another volunteer for your first number of shifts, to make sure you feel comfortable in the role.
