Description

The role is to represent and promote Independent Advocacy in Edinburgh and the Lothians. To attend promotional events, meet and greet people , promoting Independent advocacy services and how this can be of benefit. You need to have a friendly and approachable manner and be able to communicate sensitively with people form a wide variety of backgrounds and occasionally people who may be experiencing distress.
To provide information and signposting regarding Independent Advocacy/ CAPS services.
To set up and man promotional stalls. To monitor leaflets /resources and inform the volunteer coordinator when resources need to be replaced.
Training and mentoring will be provided in this role.

Organisation aims and objectives

CAPS is an independent advocacy organisation for people who use or have used mental health services. We are completely independent from the people who fund us and those who provide other services to the people we work with. We provide individual and collective advocacy in East Lothian and Midlothian. We also host several mental health related, experience-led projects across Lothian.

Restrictions

Experience required: You will need to have good communication and listening skills, be able to use sensitivity and respect others values and beliefs when signposting people to appropriate services, whilst also ensuring you are maintaining boundaries and adhere to guidelines. You will need to be comfortable working as part of a small team. You will be positively representing advocacy services so a strong sense of commitment and punctuality is also required.
Travel details: The opportunity is accessible by bus.

Training details: Induction will be provided in the first two weeks of volunteering , regular mentoring sessions will be provided and training as required/agreed
