• Visit and chat to patients who do not get visitors and provide a welcoming atmosphere

• To bring to the attention any concerns about patients to a member of staff

Organisation aims and objectives

Roodlands Hospital offers general medical and geriatric rehabilitation services to patients in East Lothian. It also provides older people’s services, including continuing care for the elderly.

Restrictions

All volunteers are reminded of the need for complete confidentiality in respect of patients and their families.
Experience required: • No previous skills are required as training will be given • Reliable and punctual • Willingness to learn • A confident, articulate and personable manner, with understanding and empathy (this may not be appropriate for all roles) • A good understanding of confidentiality • A commitment to high standards and quality service • Reliable and committed • Patience, understanding and sensitivity of the needs patients, their families • Adhere to all health and safety and fire regulations
Travel details: Travel to location of Roodlands Hospital, Edington Cottage Hospital or Belhaven Hospital is required. Public transport is available to all locations.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Agreed out of pocket expenses which are incurred when carrying out this volunteer role will be reimbursed in line with the NHS Lothian volunteer expenses policy and signed off by the VSM.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: A taster visit can be arranged.
Training details: NHS Lothian induction. Can be completed on-line or face to face (one full day). Induction must to be completed prior to placement. Support and supervision will be provided by the Charge Nurse, Volunteer Champion and VSM.
