Gig Buddies with Thera Trust pairs volunteers to adults with a learning disability based on the gigs you both love going to!
This can be music, theatre, sport, or just going for coffee. It’s whatever your ‘gig’ is! Gig Buddies pairs get out together once a month to get to know each other and enjoy their shared passion together. You’ll also communicate regularly and plan your events together. The role requires roughly 4-6 hours per month, having a chat and getting out!

Volunteer expenses are paid and we have relationships with a number of venues/event organisers that offer loads of great opportunities to our pairings, including DF Concerts, King Tuts, The Edinburgh Fringe and International Festivals, The RSNO, National Theatre Scotland, Sneaky Pete’s and more!

Organisation aims and objectives

Gig Buddies is a project that supports people with a learning disability to get out to more gigs and live events by pairing them with a volunteer who shares the same interests as them. Our ‘Gig Buddies’ then go to what events they want, when they want, and enjoy their shared passion together. In addition to this, we also host regular social events where members can meet for a drink and chat while enjoying great live entertainment. Gig Buddies is an exciting, fast growing project with an ultimate goal to help bring an end to social isolation.

Restrictions

Experience required: At Gig Buddies, we don’t require our volunteers to have any previous experience in a supporting role. However, if you are thinking of applying to become a Gig Buddy, we do ask that you are: • Able to meet with your buddy roughly once or twice a month. • Able to commit to a day of training. • Friendly and kind, with a good sense of humour. • Willing to get to know someone and develop a friendship with them. • Proactive and reliable. • Around for at least a year.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Each volunteer has an annual expense budget of £120.
Training details: In addition to a compulsory introductory training session, all volunteers will receive training relevant to the person they will be paired with. Volunteers will meet with the project coordinator every 3-4 months for supervision meetings.

As a Community Volunteer, your role is to help our members enjoy socialising in safe and friendly environments. Our events include going to restaurants, pubs, cinema, tenpin bowling, day trips and walks. The events are sociable, great fun and your role is very rewarding. Membership Secretary (Ratho Branch)

To act as a membership secretary for the Ratho Branch only of Seagull Trust Cruises Role Summary ... This is a new role which has previously been handled by the Branch Secretary and which can be developed by the volunteer according to skills and aptitude. It involves working with Branch to recruit new volunteers, maintaining records of existing volunteers and generally keeping in contact with them. Most communications are by email and basic IT skills are needed. The Branch has a reception centre at Ratho giving an opportunity to meet other volunteers but the role would be essentially "working from home". The volunteer would be welcome to join a boat crew and join cruises if desired. The Membership Secretary will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth membership processes and effective communication within the organization

You will initially shadow a volunteer or member of staff to help you get to know everyone and see what is involved. Events take place afternoons and evenings and usually last 2 hours. We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 1 event per month. Dates-n-Mates offer a variety of training and support to our volunteers. We require our volunteers to join the PVG scheme but there is no cost to yourself. All expenses including travel will also be covered.
