The Food Train Friends: Befriender

We are looking for friendly, outgoing and organised volunteers aged 16 and over. This opportunity would suit people who enjoy talking to others, are able to listen and have a couple of hours each fortnight/month that they could spend talking to an older person. Full training will be given and out-of-pocket expenses paid. The aim of Food Train Friends is to improve the quality of life for our customers by providing them with company on a regular basis. We provide a 1-2-1 service , a telephone service and a group outing service for our customers. The ideal befriender is someone who has good life experiences and a sense of humour amongst other skills for this very worthwhile cause.

Organisation aims and objectives

Provide a home delivery grocery shopping service for elderly and housebound people. Provide regular weekly contact.


Due to the vulnerable nature of the client group all volunteers will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check
Experience required: Friendliness, trustworthiness, patience, reliability, punctuality, organisation and good listening skills are all that is required.
Travel details: Normally weekdays but occasionally weekends/evenings depending on what suits the volunteer/customer
