Assistant Playworker - Stay for Play

  • VO66658

Description

As an Assistant Playworker you’ll be working with an experienced Community Playworker and a Family Play Development Worker to deliver weekly family play sessions in Woodburn (first and third Saturdays in a month) or Gorebridge (second and fourth Saturdays in a month) and/or Mayfield (first Saturday of a month). Sessions last 1.5 hours, with a further 1 hour allocated for setting up, clearing away and associated admin.

You’ll work with the team to set up the play environment at sessions. This can mean arranging resources in an interesting way, or just putting different things out next to each other. During sessions, all playworkers are tasked with facilitating play. This might mean supporting participants to negotiate over resources, helping children manage risk, being involved in play when you’re invited, or simply helping children get involved. After the session you’ll help clear up, and contribute to completing a session evaluation.

Full free play training is provided to all Assistant Playworkers as part of the induction process, so no prior knowledge of play is necessary. Induction training also includes explanations of all policies and procedures relevant to the role.

Assistant Playworkers will complement the team and allow the team to provide more support where required, and to facilitate more ambitious play sessions.
This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme. This can take up to three weeks to process.
