Description

Could you cook an extra portion of dinner for an older neighbour?
Meal Makers connect people who love cooking, with older neighbours who would appreciate home cooked food delivered every now and then.
Meal Makers is a local neighbourhood food-sharing project. They use an online platform (www.mealmakers.org.uk) to connect volunteers who are happy to share an extra portion of their home cooking with older neighbours who would really welcome a freshly prepared meal and a friendly chat.
They aim to tackle social isolation and the growing problem of malnutrition by helping older adults who no longer find it easy to cook for themselves to enjoy freshly home cooked food. They also aim to strengthen connections with communities and provide a flexible way for people to volunteer their time and skills locally in a way which suits them.
Sign up online to volunteer as a 'Cook' and they'll connect you with an older neighbour 'Diner' who would really appreciate some home cooked food and a friendly chat.
Join Meal Makers today and do something great with an extra plate!

How often, and when meals are shared, is left entirely for the 'Cook' and 'Diner' to decide between themselves. This can be a couple of times a week, weekly, fortnightly or just now and again. Meals are most commonly shared on a weekly basis, but we are happy to support any arrangement so long as both parties are happy with it. There is no minimum commitment - we will support a pairing for as long as they are happy to continue meal sharing.

Restrictions

A minimum age is for safeguarding purposes as volunteers go into the homes of adults. Under 16s can volunteer but only in the company of an adult.
Experience required: Volunteers need to be community minded people who enjoy cooking and wouldn't mind sharing an extra portion with an older neighbour from time to time.
Travel details: This opportunity is currently available in North East Fife. Volunteer 'Cooks' select a 'Diner' they would like to share a meal with in their local area; it is therefore the volunteer's decision to determine how far they are willing to travel.
