PSPA is a national charity providing support and information to people living with PSP and CBD, while funding research into treatments and ultimately a cure. We rely entirely on voluntary donations. You can see more about this here at https://pspassociation.org.uk/ *Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurological condition caused by the premature loss of nerve cells in certain parts of the brain. *Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) is a degenerative brain disease that affects people from the age of 40 onwards. PSPA covers the United Kingdom and works very closely with other PSP organisations across the world working together supporting research and the provision of information and support into PSP and CBD. Following funding from the Scottish Government, we can now increase our work in Scotland including increasing the volunteering opportunities here. Volunteers are the lifeblood of PSPA - We value the skills, experience, commitment and enthusiasm that our volunteers bring – so we are recruiting in Scotland to enable us to reach out to more people affected by PSP and CBD. By working together, we can make a real difference to people’s lives. PSP & CBD are rare and little known. Education Volunteers can improve this situation. Our aim is to make education and training available to as many health and social care professionals as possible, many of whom may not have come across PSP or CBD before. Our Education Volunteer role will help health and social care professionals to understand key information about the impact of living with PSP & CBD and thereby improve their practice. We also aim to have our volunteers raise awareness in local communities by them offering informative talks to interested groups. Volunteers will need to be enthusiastic, enjoy speaking to groups and able to manage a group effectively. Ideally they will have an understanding of PSP & CBD, be passionate about raising awareness and have empathy with the aims of PSPA. Experience in public speaking and confidence in the use of PowerPoint will help in this role and those interested should be able to travel within their local area. We will provide training and resources to enable our Education Volunteers plan and deliver free training sessions on PSP, CBD and the services offered by PSPA. We offer a comprehensive learning package that covers all aspects of the role. Interested in inspiring young people in the STEM subjects? Join a national network of 32,000 STEM Ambassadors in the UK and 5,000 in Scotland! STEM Ambassadors volunteer to inspire the next generation and help young people to develop the skills, confidence and mindset to build successful futures in STEM. You can volunteer as a STEM Ambassador to give career talks, run STEM clubs, provide advice on STEM subjects, run STEM workshops, help young people with STEM competitions - anything really which will ignite their imagination. STEM Ambassadors can find their own opportunities to volunteer or can search the STEM Ambassador digital platform for both face to face and online requests placed by teachers and community groups. The platform will connect you with the teacher/community group making the request and you can message to arrange the activity. All of your volunteering can be recorded on the platform to build a detailed summary of what you have been involved with. All STEM Ambassadors undergo a PVG Disclosure check and undertake online induction training before being authorised to work with young people. The programme is funded through the UK Government, with SSERC being the local Scottish delivery partner. SSERC will provide you with regular updates, training sessions and networking opportunities to keep your knowledge up to date and relevant for working in schools and community groups.

You will get the opportunity to attend various events within your local area with other St John Scotland CPR Champions and CPR Leads ensuring that participants are equipped to undertake potentially lifesaving bystander CPR according to current policies, regulations and protocol. You will also be trained on demonstrating defibrillator usage to participants. Main tasks: - Deliver Bystander CPR awareness to various people at different events within your local area - Defibrillator Demonstration (training is provided)
