Description

The Witness Service provides practical and emotional support and someone to talk to in confidence to all witnesses (including family and friends) attending court. The WS volunteers support victims and witnesses in court on the trial day, carry out court familiarization visits prior to the trial, explain court procedures and liaise with court officials on behalf of witnesses, passing on information or queries.

Organisation aims and objectives

To improve and increase knowledge about victims and witnesses through research studies, projects, appropriate publicity and information materials.

1 full day per week (9am until 5 pm) - minimum commitment: 1 year

Restrictions

Experience required: Volunteers should have a desire to help others, be non-judgemental and able to keep information of a confidential nature. They need to be confident enough to speak to groups of people which may include uniformed and non-uniformed police officers.
Travel details: Edinburgh High and Sheriff Courts (Chamber Street and Royal Mile, EH1)
Minimum age: 18

Training details: 3 day training course and on-going on-the-job training
