Description

If you want to gain experience in childcare or disability then this role is the one for you! You will be matched with a child or young person who you will meet with on a regular basis spending 1:1 time with them, having fun whilst doing things and going places that they enjoy. Many parents are isolated and have no family living locally or friends who they can ask to help them out in times of need. Families with child/ren with a disability struggle to have any time away from their caring role.

Organisation aims and objectives

1:1 support - doing activities with children both at home & local community which provides regular respite for parent/carers. You will build children’s confidence & social skills & you will both have fun in the process. You can work alongside experienced staff if you want to gain experience in child care.

3-4 hours weekly on Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday for a minimum of 6 months to help a child to achieve their goals.

Restrictions

Experience required: You should have a warm, friendly, adaptable and caring approach. A good listener, open, non-judgemental, reliable, honest with the ability to engage and play with children is also required.
Travel details: We work with families across the whole of Edinburgh. The volunteering activity takes place in the local community.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: We pay all out of pocket expenses for activities, agreed in advance with the co-ordinator. Travel expenses paid.
Training details: Before being matched with a child / young person you must attend our Induction Training (2 sessions of 3 hours)Other training relevant to your role is delivered over the year. All training is being delivered via ZOOM to small groups of 3-4 Volunteers on days / times that suit the group.
