Description

We are a residential Community supporting adults with learning difficulties to work and live together. Working under the direction of our head gardener you will help maintain and develop the shared areas (of which there are many) of herbaceous borders, planting around the houses, orchards and areas of woodland around the estate.

Task orientated skills that we need help with include:
• General gardening chores
• Fencing repairs
• Hedge trimming
• Staking
• Weeding
• Mulching, Composting
• Pruning
• Developing a new Sensory Trail
• Garden furniture restoration

Organisation aims and objectives

Camphill Blair Drummond is a home-from-home environment providing shared living, meaningful activities and friendship for people with learning disabilities in a unique family setting. We are a community of 42 residents, 35 day students, 35 international volunteers who spend up to 1 year in our community and close to 100 employees, making us the largest employer in rural Stirlingshire. At Blair Drummond everyone lives, works and grows together regardless of age, background, nationality or ability. Here you will find a vibrant environment where the enthusiasm of the people who live and work here creates a warm, friendly and supportive community where everyone’s contributions are valued and respected. We are proud of our unique, family environment where residents can live independently and in privacy whilst enjoying the support, companionship and friendship of others. Everyone here is treated with dignity and respect and we strongly believe that everyone has something to contribute.

Taster available: Yes
Taster details: All volunteer roles follow a steady introduction and induction program. This provides the volunteers and their support team time to get to know each other and to ensure the best match of personalities and tasks.
Training details: Volunteer Induction includes key sessions on Safeguarding Adults with learning difficulties, Confidentiality, and Fire and Safety as well as Expenses and Driving policies. The rolling Learning and Development program provides additional sessions on Communication, Community Ethos and Community living. Any training for gardening tasks will be offered as needed.
