Description

Signpost supports families with disabled children, by providing both a listening ear and practical help. This support is vital for families facing the challenges of their child’s disability, and can make the difference between families having the same choices and chances as anyone else, and missing out on the ‘ordinary life’ that every family should enjoy.

We are looking for up to 3 new trustees to join our Management Committee and take a lead role in helping the organisation to take forward its strategic plan.

We welcome enquiries from all interested parties, particularly if you have a business background, or if you have experience of using local services for young people with additional needs, but your commitment, enthusiasm, communication skills, ability to work as a member of a team and openness to learning are the most desirable skills. All trustees are jointly responsible for overseeing the work of the organisation, through monthly meetings and an annual development day at which staff and committee members decide the future direction of the charity’s work.

This provides an excellent opportunity for continuing professional and personal development, as induction and training are provided to trustees. Parent carers seeking to develop new skills, and those from the business community seeking a way to make a meaningful contribution to their local community are especially welcome.

Organisation aims and objectives

Signpost aims to improve the lives of young people with additional support needs in West Lothian, by offering practical information and help, and a 'listening ear'. Signpost objectives: -To offer a safe, confidential, friendly space where information & support will be delivered within a responsive, holistic environment. -To promote an approach that honours the diversity of families and supports them in making informed choices. -To develop the services offered to reflect the changing needs of users at different life stages. -To work in partnership with other agencies to maximise benefits for families of young people with additional support needs. -To raise awareness of families' needs and Signpost's services within the wider community.

Restrictions

Candidates must be able to attend meetings on Wednesday/Thursday evenings 7-9pm (monthly meetings on alternate days)
Experience required: Business experience is desirable but not essential.
Travel details: Meetings take place on Wednesday or Thursday evenings, once a month, at Beatlie School Campus, Craigshill, Livingston, EH54 5EJ. The building is close to bus routes 27 and 12, and has free parking next to the building.

Taster details: Candidates attend 3 trustee meetings before formally joining Board.
