Over 80 Syrian refugees - all of them in family groups - have settled in Renfrewshire over the past year. Barnardo’s are working alongside Renfrewshire council to support Refugees arriving from Syria to feel settled in their new home.
Activities undertaken by volunteers include befriending and mentoring, helping to run groups and day trips and acting as advocates. Depending on your availability and experience, your volunteering could involve supporting parents, children, young people or a family.
Volunteering with children and young people can be rewarding, challenging and fun. One thing is for sure, it is never dull!
A befriender meets regularly with a child or adult, spending time with them listening, talking and sharing experiences. The time spent together supports the development of a positive relationship which is reliable and trusted. Supporting group activities help families to fully participate in and enjoy their own community, whilst making new and sustainable connections.
