Description

The Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) programme aims to strengthen the relationship with the Police and young people, breaking down barriers and promoting positive role models. Police Scotland Youth Volunteers promotes a practical way for young people to understand policing by supporting the Police in their local area through volunteering. As part of this, young people are given a chance for their voice to be heard and encouraged to promote good citizenship. The programme is open to all young people aged between 13 – 18, this allows those people to get an insight into policing in Scotland and inspire individuals to participate positively within their communities.

Organisation aims and objectives

The aims of the Police Scotland Volunteers are: The promotion of a practical understanding of policing amongst young people. To encourage a spirit of adventure and good citizenship amongst young people. To support local policing priorities through volunteering and giving young people a chance to be heard. To inspire young people to participate positively in their communities.

Restrictions

All Adult Volunteers must be over the age of 18. Due to working with young people, any criminal record (warnings, charges, convictions) will need to be disclosed when submitting an application form. PVG checks will also be carried out if successful.
Experience required: Good organisation and communication skills, Reliable & trustworthy, Approachable & friendly.
Travel details: Adult Volunteers are expected to make their own way to their Group venue.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses details: Expenses will not be covered, however a uniform will be provided and after fundraising has taken place, expenses should be at a minimum.
Taster details: There will not be any taster sessions, however, a meeting can be held to discuss the opportunity further.
Training details: An Adult Volunteering training day will be provided as well as online training. Other training opportunities will be provided as the group develops.
